“A project like this only happens with everyone pulling together and we can’t wait to see Toyota Field take on a new look for this event in February,” said Garrett Fahrmann, Trash Pandas general manager, in a statement. “Our team is known for providing a fun and festive environment for Trash Pandas games and we will bring that same mindset to a great week of softball here at Toyota Field.”

Alabama will take on Jacksonville State to open the week of action, and five other teams – James Madison, North Alabama, Louisiana Tech, East Tennessee State and Miami (Ohio) – will also participate. All told, there will be more than 16 games played at Toyota Field that week.

“Major events like this only come about with everyone believing in the vision of making Toyota Field a softball stadium for a week,” said Joel Lamp, Sports Development Manager for the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau, in a statement. “We can’t wait to host this week of softball as we create a new event that highlights the continued growth of softball.”

SEC teams preparing to take over Rocket City Trash Pandas showcase

Alabama is fresh off a Women’s College World Series appearance after missing out on a trip to Oklahoma City last year. The Crimson Tide fell to UCLA in the opener, but rallied to defeat Duke and fight off elimination. However, Florida wound up knocking the Tide out of the tournament, meaning Alabama ended the season with a 39-20 overall record.

Auburn and Ole Miss also made the NCAA Tournament this year, although they fell in the first round. The Tigers finished with a 29-21-1 overall record while the Rebels came in at 31-27 as every SEC softball team made the big dance.

With three NCAA Tournament teams headlining its event, the Trash Pandas sure seem to be cashing in on the rise of college softball. This year’s WCWS between Oklahoma and Texas became the most-watched final on record, and that came after ESPN’s most-watched regular season in history.
