Simone Biles calls for 'justice' for Jordan Chiles amid Olympic bronze medal controversy
Simone Biles feels for what Jordan Chiles has been going through after she was ordered to return her bronze medal won at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Chiles initially placed fifth in the women’s individual floor event earlier this month but moved into third following an inquiry from USA coach Cecile Landi.
However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport later voided the inquiry, revealing that Landi had made it four seconds too late. It ruled that, as a result, Chiles would be required to return the bronze medal.
Biles revealed in a recent interview that she has been in contact with Chiles over the past couple of weeks since the Olympics ended. She also relayed a her message to her teammate, saying that she is hoping for “justice for Jordan” to be able to keep her medal.
“We saw what you did,” Biles says of Chiles. “And it’s an unfortunate circumstance because something like this has never happened before and it’s truly a shame, but we wish all three girls could get the medal and unfortunately in gymnastics that’s not the case.”
“Do we think they did the correct procedures to come to this ruling? No. That’s really why we want that justice for Jordan and why we’re going to keep supporting her and uplifting her.”
Chiles announced shortly after the ruling from the Court of Arbitration that she would be taking a break from social media for mental health reasons. Biles has also had her own mental health journey in her gymnastics career, as she did not attend the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 for mental health reasons.
She isn’t the only one who has been in Chiles’ corner throughout this situation. Team USA Gymnastics released a statement earlier this month saying it was “working full-time to pursue justice” for Chiles.

Rapper Flavor Flav even responded to the tweet, and Biles revealed that she asked permission to show it to Chiles in attempt to cheer her up.
“I know she’s not on social media, but some of the funny things I’ve seen, I said, ‘Okay, Jordan, can I send you something that I think you would really like right now?’” Biles said. “And so I’ve sent her little things, and it was like one of them was these four or five girls guarding a medal, and I thought that was the cutest.
“And then I sent her Flavor Flav’s bronze [medal he made for her] and then I sent her LeBron [James]’s tweet. So just things to uplift her and know that she still has that support all-around.”
Chiles and Biles will both be back on the mat for the Gold Over America Tour, which is set to begin on Sept. 16 in Oceanside, California.
