Katie Gearlds will remain head coach of Purdue women’s basketball next season, a source tells On3.

This past season, Purdue finished with a 10-19 overall record and a 3-15 mark in Big Ten play. The team tied for 15th in the conference standings and did not qualify for the Big Ten Tournament.

Gearlds, a former All-American with the Boilermakers, has been at the helm of the program since 2021. Purdue has made one NCAA Tournament appearance in the 2022-23 season, where they earned a No. 11 seed but lost in the First Four to St. John’s. The Boilermakers have also participated in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) twice under Gearlds, advancing to the Great 8 in the 2023-24 season before being eliminated by Vermont.

Before coaching at Purdue, Gearlds was the head coach at Marian University from 2013 to 2021, where she led the Knights to back-to-back NAIA national championships in 2016 and 2017. She was a standout player at Purdue from 2003 to 2007. She earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors in 2004 and was named a Third-team All-American in 2007 before being selected No. 7 overall in the WNBA Draft.
