Top recruit in country Aaliyah Chavez set for SEC visit
Aaliyah Chavez, the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2025, is taking an unofficial visit to LSU on Wednesday, sources told On3.
Chavez, a 5-9 point guard from Lubbock (Texas) Monterey, released her top 10 schools in October. Her 10 finalists were South Carolina, LSU, Texas, USC, Ohio State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, UCLA, Tennessee and Arizona.
Sources tell On3 that she’s keeping it close to the vest and isn’t tipping her hand heading into visits. But LSU getting a visit at this stage in her recruitment has to be a good sign for the Tigers.
Aaliyah Chavez plays AAU for CY Fair on the Nike EYBL circuit and leads all scorers with 23.4 points over 10 contests this spring. She’s also averaging 4.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists. She was also named the Texas girls’ basketball Gatorade Player of the Year in March, along with earning All-America and all-state honors.
The Tigers landed five-star 2025 recruit Isabella Hines in April. Hines is a 5-9 combo guard and is currently LSU’s lone commit in the class. The Tigers have also been named a finalist for top-10 recruit ZaKiyah Johnson and five-star guard Keeley Parks. LSU is coming off of an Elite Eight appearance last season and a national title in 2023.

LSU head coach Kim Mulkey and assistant coach Gary Redus watched Chavez in her first-round playoff game in February in Lubbock and will now host the highly-touted point guard for a visit this week.
What makes Aaliyah Chavez special?
Aaliyah Chavez could have moved away from home to play at an elite prep school, but instead, she remained in Lubbock to play for her local high school. It’s a move she believes has helped her develop into the standout she is today.
“I’d describe my game as an all-around player,” Aaliyah Chavez told SLAM. “I can shoot, I can get to the bucket, I can defend, I’m a playmaker at the same time. If you’re open, I’m gonna find you, and some of the passes I’ve been making are crazy. I think I just make crazy passes because I’m not afraid to try them.”
