UCF transfer Laila Jewett has committed to Georgetown for the 2025-26 season, she told On3. Jewett chose Georgetown over Oklahoma State, William & Mary and East Carolina

Jewett was UCF’s full-time starting point guard last season and averaged 8.3 points and 3.4 assists.

“I’m a big believer in God, so I was really just trying to ask him to lead me to where he wanted me to go,” Jewett told On3. “That’s ultimately how I came to this conclusion…I’m super excited. I can’t wait to be a part of that program.”

The 5-foot-10 guard from Woodbridge (VA) was sold after watching the Hoyas play.

“It was the way I saw them just fly around on defense when we went to watch them play Colgate on my visit,” Jewett said. “That’s something that really stood out to me, just the way they fly around, just the way they look playing together and the chemistry. You can tell that this is a group of young women that really like each other, that really want to play together and want to play for this coach. They all look like they’re going to run through a wall for Coach [Darnell] Haney. That’s just the kind of relationship with a coach that I want.”

Her relationship with Haney was another key factor in her commitment.

“He’s super, super, super intense,” Jewett said. “He has a good balance. He’s super intense, but even in practice, he would go from super intense to on the floor laughing. That’s something that I need. I don’t need to be all serious all the time. That’s just not the type of kid that I am. I’m a goofy kid. That’s what really stuck out to me about Coach Haney.”

Jewett’s ultimate goal in transferring is to be able to play at the next level, and she sees Georgetown as a stepping stone to that goal.

“I’m super excited to work with Coach Kelly Mazzante,” Jewett said. “She played in the WNBA for seven years. I was super excited. That’s all that I could ask for in an assistant coach or player development coach, so I’m just super excited to pick her brain and take all her nuggets.”
