Women's Basketball AP Poll

The women’s basketball AP Top 25 has once again seen a fairly major shake-up. In particular, the Top 10 saw more upsets. The most notable came when Notre Dame dropped multiple games during Feast Week.

The calendar has now turned to December. So, while it’s still early and teams are still establishing their identities, there is now more data available on every team that’s competing. That gives everyone, including AP Poll voters, a better idea of where every team deserves to be ranked.

With all of that in mind, here is a look at the most recently updated women’s AP Top 25 Poll:

1. UCLA

There was no letdown for UCLA after beating South Carolina. Since that win, the Bruins have added three more wins. All of those were against overmatched mid-majors. The closest any opponent kept the game was Hawaii, who lost 70-49.

From here, UCLA will have a chance to breathe. The Bruins don’t have another game until Sunday, December 8th. That’s when UCLA is going to open Big Ten play with a game against Washington.

2. UConn

The UConn Huskies added a pair of good wins last week. That included beating Oregon State and a ranked Ole Miss team. With that, it’s no surprise that UConn is still ranked so highly in the AP Poll.

From here, the Huskies are going to look to keep building up momentum. That starts with a game against Holy Cross. From there, the schedule gets trickier with games against Louisville and Notre Dame before conference play tips off.

3. South Carolina

South Carolina dropped in the AP Poll after suffering an upset loss last week to UCLA. Since then, the Gamecocks have done more than bouncing back, adding two dominant wins. That included a 40-point win over Iowa State.

This next week won’t be an easy one for South Carolina. Duke and TCU are on the slate this week, both of whom seem to be capable of beating anyone this season. So, South Carolina will need to be ready for more upset attempts.

4. Texas

The Texas Longhorns remain unbeaten. That’s despite getting a scare from the West Virginia Mountaineers on Sunday. In a thriller, the Longhorns were able to lean on a fast start to avoid getting upset. Aaliyah Moore led the way with 20 points in the first close game of the season for Texas.

Now, Texas is going to need to turn its attention to a major test against Notre Dame. Even with the Irish suffering a pair of upset losses, Notre Dame is still capable of beating anyone in the country and Texas can’t be caught unprepared.

5. LSU

The LSU Tigers have been dominant so far in the 2024-25 season. Last week, that included a 17-point win over NC State and a 131-44 point win over NC Central. Given the number of big name stars LSU has, it’s not a surprise the AP Poll has them so highly ranked.

Next week, LSU will have a pair of non-conference games. That starts with a game against Stanford, who is 7-1 in their first season since legendary head coach Tara VanDerveer retired. After that, LSU will take on Grambling State.

6. USC

After dropping a game to Notre Dame last week, USC more than bounced back during Feast Week with a pair of wins. Neither of those games were particularly close either, and with that the Trojans have reestablished themselves at the top of the AP Poll.

This week, USC has a couple more games to deal with. That, notably, includes the Oregon Ducks next Saturday. A talented team, the Ducks represent the first conference game of the season for USC.

7. Maryland

Maryland remains unbeaten and, with that, they’re beginning to move up in the AP Poll. Still, the Terrapins did get a good scare against George Mason last week, trailing by a point as they entered the fourth quarter of what turned into a 66-56 win.

Next week, Maryland is scheduled to play a pair of games. That starts with Mount St. Mary’s and ends with Purdue, which also marks the start of Big Ten play this season. That’s also when the schedule is going to get tougher.

8. Duke

It’s hard to find a team playing as well as Duke is playing. It was a busy week for the Blue Devils, who pulled off two AP Top 10 upsets against Kansas State and Oklahoma. Then, they finished off the week with another comfortable win over Columbia.

The schedule won’t get any easier moving forward. Next, Duke plays South Carolina before opening ACC play against Virginia Tech. Still, while things are about to get tough, Duke has proven that they can beat anyone.

9. TCU

The TCU Horned Frogs are still unbeaten and have now jumped into the Top 10 of the AP Poll. That’s off a week where the Horned Frogs had a massive upset win over Notre Dame, who they did jump in the poll. They followed that up by dominating USF, showing that the win over the Irish wasn’t a fluke.

The schedule won’t get any easier from here, though. After playing FAU later this week, the Horned Frogs will have to play South Carolina next weekend. That game will be telling about just how real a threat the Horned Frogs are this season.

10. Notre Dame

It was a difficult week for Notre Dame. The Irish dropped two games, both of which came against power conference teams in TCU and Utah. In both of those games, Notre Dame’s previously high flying offense was held to under 70 points.

Now, Notre Dame is going to look to bounce back as quickly as possible and begin working their way up the AP Poll again. That starts on Thursday with a massive game against the Texas Longhorns. A win there and this bad week will be easier to overlook.
