One of the top soon-to-be seniors in the Yellowhammer State is transferring to a 7A power.

After excelling as a junior for Gulf Shores (Ala.), four-star linebacker JaMichael Garrett is now set to transfer to Auburn High in the spring, according to Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman.

Garrett is coming off a junior campaign that saw 91 total tackles, per MaxPreps. His last two seasons have seen 178 tackles, 36 of which were for loss, 11 sacks, 19 hurries and two interceptions.

The 6-foot, 195-pounder is already committed to Auburn and is now set to play his senior season on The Plains before heading to Hugh Freeze’s program in 2026. He pledged to the Tigers on July 27.

Garrett is the No. 132 overall prospect and No. 10 LB in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 9 junior in Alabama.

Freeze and his staff already have three blue-chip prospects in the Auburn 2026 recruiting class, as Garrett is flanked by Huntsville Jemison four-star EDGE Hezekiah Harris and Mobile Cottage Hill Christian four-star linebacker Shadarius Toodle.

Auburn High coming off 10-win season this fall

The Tigers were stunned in the Alabama 7A state playoff quarterfinals, losing to eventual champions Thompson. Despite the loss, Auburn put together an impressive 10-1 season that saw it reach the No. 1 spot in the state toward the end of the year.

Facing plenty of the state’s top competition, Auburn opened the year with a trio of in-state ranked wins over Vestavia Hills, Opelika and Enterprise. It made a serious statement on Oct. 4 when it knocked off former No. 1 Phenix City Central on the road, 38-33.

The Tigers finished their undefeated regular season behind a potent offense that ranked No. 1 in the state, according to the On3 Massey Ratings. They then rolled Bob Jones High in the first round of the 7A playoffs before falling to Thompson, 34-21.

Auburn closed its 2024 season as the No. 2 team in Alabama and the No. 50 team in the nation, according to the On3 Composite Rankings.
