The landscape of South Florida high school football has changed somewhat since the 2024 season, but Miami Central still remains one of the state’s best teams. On Monday evening, the Rockets got a little bit better with a local transfer coming in.

Class of 2027 cornerback T’ari Miller announced on social media that he has transferred from Miami Southridge to 9-time state champion Miami Central. Miller’s post read ‘New home same dream’ on X and Instagram.

Among the schools that are after Miller’s services on the collegiate level are Michigan State, Mississippi State, North Carolina, University of South Florida and Western Michigan to name a few.

Miller will play for a Miami Central program that’s in a transition to first-year head coach Derrick Gibson, who took over the team back in February. The Rockets are coming off a tumultuous 2024 campaign in which the program was forced to forfeit all nine of their victories due to use of an ineligible player, thus knocking them effectively out of Florida’s Class 3A playoff picture.

On the field, Miami Central’s only loss came up against the Lakeland Dreadnaughts at Traz Powell Stadium to open up the 2024 season before reeling off nine straight on-field wins.

The Rockets look to turn things around under Gibson, who was formerly a Florida Atlantic assistant coach before arriving at Miami Central. Gibson’s regular season debut will take place away from the friendly confines of South Florida and on the road in Duval County against the Class 3A finalist Jacksonville Raines.

Gibson, who was the head coach at Miami Killian for three seasons, is no stranger to Miami Central as he served as the school’s defensive coordinator from 2009-2019 before accepting a job as the safeties coach at FAU.

Miller played for Homestead during the 2024 season, notching 12 tackles, two interceptions and batting away three passes before transferring to Southridge.
