Lubbock (Texas) Monterey five-star point guard Aaliyah Chavez has been named the 2025 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Friday.

Chavez was named a Naismith First Team All-American for the second year in a row earlier this week and has now added another illustrious award to her mantle.

The 5-foot-9 guard capped off an incredible senior season with a state championship earlier this month. She finished her career with 4,796 points, which ranks 14th all-time on the girls’ state scoring list. She averaged 34.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.7 steals per game as a senior, leading Monterey to a 37-5 record.

Not only does she have the all-time scoring record at the school for a single season and a career, but she’s also scored the most points in a game (57) and most assists in a single season (240), among others. Chavez is able to score at will, dominate the glass, pass the ball efficiently and can defend with the best of them. Earlier this season, the 2023-24 Texas Girls’ Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year nearly scored 100 points total in back-to-back games.

“Every moment of doubt I pushed through over the years has led to this point. Being honored as the top player in the nation isn’t just about talent — it’s about the countless hours of sacrifice when no one was watching,” Chavez said in a press release. “This Jersey Mike’s Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year Trophy represents my journey, not just the destination.”

The McDonald’s All-American is scattered throughout her school’s record book and is now en route to making her college decision. She has announced a March 25 commitment date and will choose between Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, South Carolina and UCLA.

“The most important thing is to make sure I’m in a place where I have high energy,” Chavez previously told On3 about her decision. “I don’t want a coach that’s low energy, and I need to make sure that they’re going to be there the whole time [I am]. I don’t want a coach that’s just going to be there for two years… I want them to be there all four years. Because that’s what I’m getting recruited off of, right? I want to be there all four years.”

Chavez is the consensus No. 1 prospect in the nation and continues to sit atop the 2025 cycle in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
