#4 Clay-Chalkville @ #3 Thompson – Friday, Sept. 27
The reigning 6A state champion Cougars continued their dominant ways against Shades Valley (42-0) before hitting the bye week. They’ll have had an extra week of preparation for their biggest game to date — and one of the state’s biggest this season — against Thompson. After losing their season opener against Loganville (Ga.) Grayson, the 2023 7A state runners-up have reeled off four consecutive wins. First on the road against Nashville (Tenn.) Lipscomb Academy, then blitzing Tuscaloosa 47-7 , rolling past Oak Mountain 42-7 and beating top-25 Vestavia Hills 38-17 over the weekend.
#11 Montgomery Catholic Preparatory @ #5 Saraland – Friday, Sept. 27
The Spartans remained spotless after a convincing 34-12 win on the road against McGill-Toolen Catholic. Saraland has already faced one of the tougher schedules in the state, and it will only get more challenging with a home tilt against No. 11 Montgomery Catholic Prep on Friday night. The Knights come in undefeated but have yet to face a state top-25 team this season.
#14 Parker @ #6 Hoover – Friday, Sept. 27
The Bucs have been on an early-season rollercoaster, beating Western to open the season, followed by a 39-37 loss to Spain Park the next week. They came back with a vengeance to beat a then-top-10 Hillcrest team 35-6. They won a defensive battle 8-7 over No. 4 Hewitt-Trussville before routing previously undefeated Prattville 40-6 over the weekend. A top-15 matchup with Parker looms on Friday night. The Thundering Herd are looking to get back in the win column after a resounding 48-26 road loss to Carrollton (Ga.) last weekend — their first of the season.

#8 Spain Park @ #25 James Clemens – Friday, Sept. 27
Another significant riser early in the season has been Spain Park, which opened the season with a 38-7 throttling of Sparkman before beating Hoover in a 39-37 thriller two weeks ago. They eked out a 28-26 squeaker against Helena last week, then rolled past Benjamin Russell 42-15 to move to 4-0 and up two spots. A white-hot James Clemens teams will be looking to pull off the upset though, with the Jets currently winners of four in a row.
Daphne @ #15 Spanish Fort – Friday, Sept. 27
The Toros dropped out of the top 10 two weeks ago after a 42-17 loss to Saraland, but responded by beating winless Murphy 44-6. This one ought to be significantly tougher though, as Daphne comes to town. The Trojans are coming off a loss to Montgomery Baker, but have already reeled off three wins and gave Mary G Montgomery everything they could handle.
