The Alabama high school football playoffs are right around the corner and the On3 Massey Ratings in the state have once again updated.

The regular season has concluded for some around the Yellowhammer State, but there are still games to be played this week.

Below are the updated top 25 programs in the state of Alabama, as of Oct. 28.

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

1. Auburn

Previous: No. 1
Auburn closed its regular season with a dominant 42-7 win over Dothan and will enter the postseason undefeated at 9-0. The Tigers have the No. 2 offense and No. 5 defense in the state, per the Massey Ratings, and are a favorite to raise a trophy in the coming weeks.

2. Saraland

Previous: No. 2
Saraland will also enter the postseason with a 9-0 record following its 42-0 shutout on the road against Theodore. The Spartans have looked dominant on offense and defense behind an impressive roster. Behind K.J. Lacey and Co., Saraland has the No. 3 offense in the state, per the Massey Ratings.

3. Alabaster Thompson

Previous: No. 3
Thompson got back to its winning ways last week with a 42-7 victory at home over Prattville. The Warriors faced a stout regular season schedule and finished with a 7-3 record. Behind an impressive defense, Thompson is fully capable of making a run in the playoffs.

4. Hewitt-Trussville

Previous: No. 4
Hewitt-Trussville has a top-five offense and defense in the state, per the Massey Ratings, following a 49-0 drubbing of Tuscaloosa County on the road last week. The Huskies finished their regular season with an 8-2 mark and will now look to make some noise in the 7A playoffs.

5. Hoover

Previous: No. 6 (+1)
Hoover completed its regular season with a four-game winning streak that was capped off by an emphatic 18-point win over ranked Vestavia Hills last week. The Buccaneers are now 8-2, got hot late and are now a top-five team in the state heading into the playoffs next month.

6. Clay-Chalkville

Previous: No. 5 (-1)
Clay-Chalkville still has business to settle in the regular season, as it will head to Vestavia Hills this week. The Cougars suffered a shock loss to top-10 Oxford earlier this month but are still 8-1 and have aspirations to repeat as 7A state champions. They’re favored to win 28-23 this week, per the Massey Ratings.

7. Phenix City Central

Previous: No. 8 (+1)
Perhaps quietly, Phenix City Central will enter the postseason with a 7-2 record and the No. 1 offense in the state, per the Massey Ratings. The Red Devils went through a rough patch late in the season but picked up a 52-14 win over Jefferson Davis to finish the regular season last week.

8. Oxford

Previous: No. 9 (+1)
Oxford has managed to avoid cancellations this season and will look to make it a perfect 10-0 regular season this week when it heads to 5-4 Florence. The Yellow Jackets picked up a big win over Clay-Chalkville this month to cement themselves as a legitimate contender, though the rest of the schedule has been mediocre. They’ll be one to watch in November.

9. Opelika

Previous: No. 7 (-2)
It was a sour finish to the regular season for Opelika as it fell 44-35 to Montgomery Carver last week. The Bulldogs are now 8-2 with multiple impressive ranked victories under their belt. The defense ranks No. 7 in the state, per the Massey Ratings, and will look to carry them to a championship in the coming weeks.

10. Spain Park

Previous: No. 10
Spain Park also has an opportunity to finish the regular season perfect at 10-0 this week as it heads to 5-4 Gardendale. The Jaguars have also benefited from a less-than-impressive schedule but have gotten the job done each week thus far. They’re one of two teams in the top 10 to not boast an offense or defense that ranks in the top 10 in the Massey Ratings.
