Alabama high school football team hires former NFL player as offensive line coach
An Alabama high school football team will be bringing in former NFL player Darryl Williams Jr. as offensive line coach. Williams will join Hoover High School, a team that went through three head coaches in as many seasons. He will work under Chip English, who replaced Ben T. Rection last season.
The former Mississippi State standout will join a team that ranked seventh in the Alabama On3 Composite Team Rankings. The Buccaneers finished the season with a 10-3 record and reached the semifinal of the AHSAA Class 7A state tournament.
Hoover has some elite talent, including Tennessee commit Tyson Bacon and quarterback Noah Schuback. Meanwhile, Hoover has won 13 Alabama high school football state championships and 23 regional titles.
After getting undrafted in 2020, the Kansas City Chiefs signed Williams but released him during the final roster cuts. However, the Chiefs signed him to the practice squad, a position he held from September to January. Williams did not play an official NFL game with the Chiefs as he bounced between practice squads and futures contracts.

The New England Patriots signed Williams in June 2022 but released him a month later. The Jacksonville Jaguars picked him up and he went through a roster cut and a practice squad inclusion. Luckily, he eventually reached the active roster and played three special teams snaps, his only appearance in a meaningful NFL game.
After assigning him to the practice squad and giving him a reserve/futures contract, the Jaguars released Williams before the 2024 NFL season.
