Brian Landis is heading back to the high school football ranks.

On Tuesday afternoon, Alpharetta (Ga.) announced the hiring of Landis as the school’s new head football coach. He comes to the Raiders after spending 2024 as the defensive coordinator at West Georgia.

“We are thrilled to announce that Brian Landis is the new head coach for out football program,” Alpharetta wrote announcing the hire on X. “With a wealth of experience both at the collegiate and high school levels, coach Landis brings an impressive track record of success to Alpharetta.”

A Cincinnati native, Landis spent 11 seasons as a defensive backs coach at Georgetown College, his alma mater, from 2006-2014. He then spent time on staff at both Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky before making his first move to coach high school.

Landis was the first head coach at Frederick Douglass High School in Lexington, Ky, helping start the program from scratch in 2017. Across three seasons, the Broncos compiled a 35-5 record, headlined by a 5A state title appearance in 2019.

He then made his first stop in the Peach State, leaving Douglass to become a linebackers coach at Georgia State, where he spent three seasons before coming to West Georgia in 2024 for the Wolves’ first season of Division I football. Now, Landis is heading back to Friday nights.

Alpharetta is coming off a down year that saw the Raiders finish with a woeful 1-9 record. They ranked as the No. 204 team in the state, according to the On3 Composite. Last season snapped a streak of eight consecutive postseason appearances, though Alpharetta has now finished with a losing record in three of the last four years.

“With a proven record of developing top-tier defenses and players, we’re excited for the future of Alpharetta football under coach Landis’ leadership,” the school wrote.
