Arizona High School Football Rankings: Top 25 teams - Oct. 6

Week six of the Arizona high school football season is in the books and the On3 Massey Ratings top 25 have updated as a result.

The top 10 doesn’t feature any new teams but is shaken up following some intriguing results. Hamilton is back to No. 3, while Queen Creek American Leadership Academy is up to No. 4.

Below are the updated top programs in the state of Arizona, as of Oct. 6.

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

1. Liberty

Previous: No. 1
Liberty rebounded from its first loss of the season by cruising past top-10 Chandler 45-20 on the road, improving to 4-1 in 2024. The Lions still have the top-ranked offense and defense in the state, per the Massey Ratings. They now have a pair of top-10 wins on the season and will host No. 16 Pinnacle this week.

2. Basha

Previous: No. 2
Basha picked up arguably the biggest win of the regular season across the state over the weekend, besting No. 5 Brophy 35-32 on the road. The Bears are now 5-1, with their lone loss coming against nationally-ranked Mission Viejo (Calif.). Only ranked teams remain on the schedule as the tests continue to come, beginning with a showdown against No. 3 Hamilton this week.

3. Hamilton

Previous: No. 5 (+2)
The Huskies remained undefeated over the weekend with a monstrous 58-0 shutout of Valley Vista. Hamilton has scored 40-plus points in three consecutive games and its offense now ranks No. 3 in the state, per the Massey Ratings. Easily its biggest test of the season awaits this week when it heads to No. 2 Basha. The Massey Ratings predict a 14-point win for the Bears.

4. Queen Creek American Leadership Academy

Previous: No. 6 (+2)
The Patriots continue to boast one of the top defenses in the state, with the latest example being a 17-0 win over No. 21 Mountain Pointe over the weekend. American Leadership Academy is now 6-0 on the season in impressive fashion, allowing just 39 points all year. It is now idle and will return to action on Oct. 18 for a big game against No. 6 Red Mountain.

5. Brophy Prep

Previous: No. 4 (-1)
Brophy was on the cusp of its biggest win of the season but was unable to overcome No. 2 Basha this weekend. The Broncos are now 5-1 but still have multiple big wins under their belt already. Their favored to win each of their four remaining regular season contests and will look to get back on track on Oct. 18 when they take on 1-5 Desert Vista.

6. Red Mountain

Previous: No. 8 (+2)
Red Mountain has continued to emerge as one of the top teams in the state, cementing its status by taking down top-10 Highland over the weekend, 28-11. The 6-0 Mountain Lions have been elite offensively, scoring 40-plus points four times already in 2024. They also have a tough finish to the regular season, which will begin following a bye week. Red Mountain hosts American Leadership Academy on Oct. 18 in a battle of undefeated programs.

7. Highland

Previous: No. 3 (-4)
Highland was only able to muster up 11 points in its first loss of the season to No. 6 Red Mountain over the weekend. The Hawks still have the No. 6 defense in the state, per the Massey Ratings, and continue to compete on both sides of the ball. They are also idle this coming week and are set to return to action on Oct. 18 at home against No. 20 Williams Field.

8. Chandler

Previous: No. 7 (-1)
Chandler has looked the part against lower competition, but it now riding a two-game losing streak following a 25-point loss to top-ranked Liberty over the weekend. The 4-2 Wolves have nothing but ranked opponents left on the regular season schedule, so the opportunities to make statements are plentiful. They’ll head to No. 22 Casteel on Oct. 18.

9. Mountain View

Previous: No. 9
Mountain View’s offense continues to look like one of the best in the state and now ranks No. 8 in the Massey Ratings following a 50-6 thrashing of Mesa Westwood. The 5-1 Toros are averaging 48 points per game and have eclipsed that number four times in 2024. Also idle this coming week, Mountain View will host Mesa on Oct. 18.

10. Higley

Previous: No. 10
The Knights were on bye this weekend and are coming off an exciting 56-50 shootout win on the road over Cactus Shadows two weeks ago. Higley’s offense ranks No. 5 in the state, per the Massey Ratings, and will have a chance to shine amidst a light schedule this coming week. It heads to Gilbert for a clash against No. 25 Gilbert North ALA.
