The second week of the season in the Grand Canyon State has come and gone, and the Arizona high school football rankings have adjusted accordingly.
No teams dropped out of the On3 Massey Ratings Arizona top 25 this week, though there was plenty of movement amidst the top and bottom of the rankings. Highland has joined the top five, while Mountain View has entered the top 10.
Below are the updated top 25 teams in the state of Arizona, as of Sept. 9.
The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory. According to the model — four teams from Alabama rank inside the nationwide top 100.

1. Liberty
Previous Ranking: No. 1
The Lions now check in as the No. 17 team in the nation following a 46-0 drubbing of Sandra Day O’Connor last week. Liberty’s defense is yet to allow a point this season and is now an emphatic 2-0 to begin 2024. No. 9 Mountain View will look to impose a bigger threat to the Lions when they head to Peoria this Friday, though the home team is predicted to win the game by 35 points, per the Massey Ratings.
2. Chandler
Previous Ranking: No. 3 (+1)
After scoring just 27 points in its season-opener, Chandler opted to open up a can on Mountain Ridge last week in a big 63-3 victory to improve to 2-0. Tristan Halsana rushed for three scores in the win. The Wolves are right behind Liberty with the No. 2 offense in the state through the first two weeks of the season. They’ll look for win No. 3 this Friday when they travel to Mesa to take on Westwood.
3. Hamilton
Previous Ranking: No. 2 (-1)
Hamilton has held serve at home to begin the season 2-0. The Huskies took down Desert Ridge 35-21 last Thursday, charged by a defensive performance that witnessed seven sacks. Hamilton won’t play another game at home until Oct. 18, as it now embarks on a three-game road trip, beginning with a matchup at Boulder Creek on Friday.
4. Basha
Previous Ranking: No. 4
Basha ran for over 300 yards in a big 47-3 victory over Mesa. Rising sophomore running back Noah Roberts had two touchdowns in the win. The Bears have possessed a potent offense early on in 2024 and will look to land their first ranked win of the season on Friday when they host No. 16 Saguaro. A road trip to nationally-ranked Mission Viejo (Calif.) on Sept. 20 looms large.
5. Highland
Previous Ranking: No. 7 (+2)
In one of the more surprising results of the early Arizona season, Highland defended home turf in a big way last week, defeating preseason No. 3 Centennial, 24-17. The Hawks’ stout defense shut things down in the second half, propelling the program out of Gilbert to No. 5 in the state. Highland (2-0) heads to California this weekend to take on Bakersfield Frontier on Saturday evening.
6. Queen Creek American Leadership Academy
Previous Ranking: No. 6
Following a 56-7 win over Boulder Creek last week, American Leadership Academy has now scored 96 points through its first two games of the season. The Patriots enter the week with the No. 7-ranked offense in the state. This Thursday, they’ll host Gilbert North American LA — which is also undefeated early on this season. The Patriots have a 93% win probability, per the Massey Ratings.
7. Brophy Prep
Previous Ranking: No. 8 (+1)
Brophy led Regis Jesuit (Colo.) just 7-0 in the second half, but the Broncos exploded late for five scores and a safety and ultimately won 44-0. Junior QB Case Vanden Bosch had three touchdowns in the victory, which improved Brophy to 2-0. The first big test of the season awaits this Friday, as the Broncos will head to Peoria and try to hand No. 10 Centennial a third loss to begin 2024. It’s the Huskies that are tabbed with an 84% win probability via the Massey Ratings.

8. Higley
Previous Ranking: No. 9 (+1)
Higley got the job done on the road last week, besting San Juan Hills (Calif.) for a tight 25-20 win. Arizona QB commit Luke Haugo collected over 200 total yards and ran for a touchdown. The Knights (2-0) check in with the No. 6 offense in the state this week and will play their third road game in a row this weekend when they take on Marana, the No. 28 team in the state.
9. Mountain View
Previous Ranking: No. 13 (+4)
The Toros have now scored 99 total points through the first two games of the season following a convincing 30-point win over ranked Saguaro last week. Mountain View QB Brady Goodman had three touchdowns through the air and one on the ground. Now 2-0, the Toros will try and pull off a big-time upset this weekend on the road at No. 1 Liberty. The Lions are predicted to win the game 42-7 via the Massey Ratings.
10. Centennial
Previous Ranking: No. 5 (-5)
A pair of one-score losses have left Centennial behind with an 0-2 record. The Coyotes are without multiple incoming transfers to begin the season, and the offense has suffered as a result, scoring just 27 points thus far. There’s no time for wallowing, either, as another top-10 matchup is on the docket this week. Centennial will look for win No. 1 when it hosts No. 7 Brophy.
