Auburn RB commit Alvin Henderson breaks Alabama high school football rushing record
Alvin Henderson has terrorized opposing defenses for Elba (Ala.) High since he arrived on the scene as a freshman. On Friday night, he reached a historic milestone, etching his name into Alabama high school football history.
Early in the second half of Elba’s game against Florala, Henderson scampered for 7 yards to pass Mac Campbell (9,839 yards) for the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) all-time rushing record. He’s also on pace to become the seventh player ever to reach 10,000 career rushing yards, According to the National Federation of State High School Associations’ (NFHS) records.
Earlier this season, Henderson collected headlines thanks to a 435-yard, nine-touchdown outing that saw Elba still somehow lose despite scoring 78 points. That game saw Henderson set the AHSAA record for single-game touchdowns and the record for single-game points with 60. He followed up that game by rushing for 354 yards and seven TDs in his next outing, too.
Entering Friday night, Henderson had rushed for over 2,400 yards and 42 TDs in nine games. His junior campaign witnessed over 3,500 yards and 61 scores on the ground. He’s found pay dirt over 170 times in his four seasons.
“Alvin Henderson is the most productive of the top running back prospects in this cycle coming out of his junior season. He plays at a lower level in Alabama, but he is utterly dominant against that competition, as you would expect from a blue-chip prospect,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power said this spring.

“Overall, he’s a well-rounded and reliable running back. He’s going to be a guy who you can count on to maximize his blocking and pick up consistent yards. He’s a highly productive running back prospect.”
Henderson flipped his commitment to the in-state Tigers from Penn State on June 21. He is the No. 125 overall prospect, No. 6 RB and No. 8 player in Alabama in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
“Auburn is a great school and they are going in the right direction. Coach Derrick Nix is a cool coach, we are building a relationship and Coach Freeze is doing a lot of good things,” Henderson told On3. “Auburn has great fans, the atmosphere is wild and I love a lot of things about Auburn. They recruited me hard and they have put a lot of time and effort into me. The Auburn coaches have shown a lot of love.”
