Averion Hurts Jr., the older brother of Super Bowl-winning quarterback Jalen Hurts, has landed a new Texas high school football coaching job.

Earlier this month, Hurts Jr. announced that he’s the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Westfield High School in Houston. He heads to Westfield after spending time as the offensive coordinator at Baytown Lee High.

“God, forever, gets the glory in this story! Still just working to be the best where my feet are.. Now let’s get paid,” Hurts wrote announcing the move on X.

He’s also spent time coaching QBs at Summer Creek and Humble. He transitioned to coaching following a college career that culminated with two years at Texas Southern, where he threw for over 2,800 yards and 26 touchdowns across the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Hurts Jr., like his younger brother, played at Channelview High, where their father, Averion Sr. has been the longtime head coach.

Lee compiled a 6-4 record in 2024, ranking as the No. 389 team in Texas, according to the On3 Composite Rankings. Westfield won eight games a season ago and closed as the No. 80 team in the Lone Star State. The Mustangs were on a seven-game winning streak until a 16-13 loss to College Park in November ended its season.

Hurts Jr. will look to improve an offense that averaged 33.6 points per game in 2024. Prior to last year’s eight-win season, Westfield won double-digit games in 12 of the previous 13 seasons. In the Division-II 14th district, Westfield has won 28 consecutive games.
