Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is giving back to the game of football by helping a local high school in need.

Cocoa (Fla.) Space Coast High’s football team was the recipient of a $17,900 donation from the Baker & Emily Mayfield Foundation to help acquire some new equipment, the foundation announced on Tuesday evening via social media.

“After receiving word that a local Florida high school may have to turn kids away from their fall football program due to a lack of equipment, the Baker & Emily Mayfield Foundation donated $17,900 for new shoulder pads and helmets.”

“This donation will fund brand-new helmets and pads, providing crucial equipment for the team. Youth sports, like football, play an essential role in teaching kids values such as resilience, strength, and the pursuit of success—core beliefs upheld by the BE Mayfield Foundation. The Space Coast team was in desperate need of new gear, and the foundation stepped in to ensure that every aspiring athlete has the opportunity to play, stay safe, and continue their passion for the game. This generous contribution is sure to make a lasting impact on the team and its young athletes.” — The Baker and Emily Mayfield Foundation’s website

The donation is the latest act from the foundation that has continued to help the community in Tampa Bay. Just last month, the foundation hosted its second annual ‘BE the Ball’ event, which benefits early childhood literacy programs.

Mayfield is in his second season with the Buccaneers after playing parts of five seasons with the Browns, Panthers and Rams. Space Coast is currently 3-2 this season and is set to take the field at home this Friday against Kissimmee Celebration.
