SB Rosters AFI

For the second time in three seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will meet on the grandest stage.

The pair of juggernauts will meet in New Orleans on Feb. 9 to battle in Super Bowl LIX. Much of the country will be represented inside the Caesars Superdome, too. The Chiefs and Eagles rosters feature players from 31 different states.

Below is a look at both rosters, where each player hails from and where they played their high school football:

Florida at the top with 12 representatives

Florida is one of two states that will see 12 of its players on the sidelines in a couple of weeks. Of those 12 players, eight are on the Eagles’ roster.

Coming out of Apopka High, star defensive lineman Jalen Carter is a headlining name for Philly, as is defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who checks in from Cocoa. Three other defensive backs on Nick Sirianni’s roster are from Florida in safety Sydney Brown, as well as corners Quinyon Mitchell and Isaiah Rodgers.

For Kansas City, wide receiver Hollywood Brown is one of four Floridians on the roster. The former Chaminade-Madonna star is joined by safety Chamarri Conner, EDGE Josh Uche and offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor.

Note: Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith and cornerback Eli Ricks both finished their high school careers at IMG Academy in Florida but are listed with their home high schools.

Texas also features 12, including both starting QBs

Texas will also have 12 representatives in New Orleans, too, including two of the biggest names that will be on the field.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was a member of the 2014 class that came out of Whitehouse High, while Eagles QB Jalen Hurts was in the 2016 class at Channelview.

Three other Lone Star State natives are on the Chiefs: Linebacker Nick Bolton, running back Samaje Perine and EDGE Charles Omenihu.

For the Eagles, veteran offensive lineman Lane Johnson was in the 2008 class out of Groveton. Four defenders are among the eight total Texans on the roster, including CB Tristan McCollum, safety Lewis Cine, defensive lineman Milton Williams and DL Moro Ojomo.

California is the only other state with double-digit players, checking in with 11, seven of whom are on Kansas City.

Wide receivers Xavier Worthy and JuJu Smith-Schuster come out of Central Fresno and Long Beach Poly, respectively. WR Nikko Remigio is one of two players from Santa Ana powerhouse Mater Dei, alongside Eagles DB Eli Ricks.

KC veteran defensive back Trent McDuffie comes out of fellow California staple St. John Bosco. He’s one of three Golden State DBs on the Chiefs roster, alongside cornerbacks Chris Roland-Wallace and Keith Taylor.

For the Eagles, Ricks is one of four Californians on the roster, alongside QB Tanner McKee, tight end Grant Calcaterra and WR Johnny Wilson.

Georgia will also be repped heavily

Of the eight Peach State products that are featured throughout the two rosters, six are on the Chiefs, including some key players.

Safety Justin Reid comes out of Dutchtown High, while kicker Harrison Butker is an Atlanta Westminster School alum. Offensive linemen Hunter Nourzad and Wanya Morris are from the Walker School and Grayson High, respectively.

Just two Eagles are from Georgia, but they’re both instrumental to Philly’s success. Before heading to IMG in Florida, linebacker Nolan Smith played for Calvary Day in Savannah. Cornerback Darius Slay was a part of the 2009 class at Brunswick High.

Ohio and Virginia each have six

Six players each from the Buckeye State and the Commonwealth of Virginia are represented in this year’s Super Bowl.

Four of the Ohioans find themselves in red and gold. Most notably, star tight end Travis Kelce graduated from Cleveland Heights High School. Safety Bryan Cook played for Mt. Healthy in Cincinnati and starting running back Kareem Hunt comes from Willoughby South. Starting left guard Joe Thuney was the class of 2011 at Kettering Archbishop Alter.

The numbers are then flipped for the Commonwealth with four Virginians on Philadelphia’s roster. EDGE Josh Sweat graduated from Oscar Smith in 2018. Also on the defense is Oren Burks from South County HS. Starting right guard Mekhi Becton hails from Highland Springs’ class of 2017.

Milbrook (Va.)’s Nazeeh Johnson has been a contributor in the secondary for Kansas City.

Five for North Carolina, Alabama

Three North Carolinians and four from the Yellowhammer State litter the Eagles roster. From the Tar Heel state are two bulldozers on each side of the line of scrimmage for Philly — South Caldwell offensive lineman Landon Dickerson and Mallard Creek defensive lineman Jordan Davis.

Also from Mallard Creek is the Chiefs’ D.J. Humphries, who graduated six years before Jordan Davis.

Three of Philadelphia’s four players from the state of Alabama come on the defense: St. Paul’s linebacker Bryce Huff, West Limestone safety Reed Blankenship and Huntsville LB Nicholas Morrow. Starting fullback Khari Blasingame was part of the Buckhorn class of 2014.

KC wide receiver Justyn Ross is one of the many notable alums from Phenix City Central High School, having graduated in 2018.

23 additional states represented

In addition to the heavy hitters mentioned above, 23 additional states will be represented in Super Bowl LIX.

Pennsylvania, Mississippi, New Jersey and Indiana have each provided four players to the two rosters. The star of this Eagles team — Saquon Barkley — came out of Whitehall High School in 2015, while Philly WR A.J. Brown played at Starkville (Miss.). Young standout Kansas City edge rusher George Karlaftis comes from West Lafayette (Ind.), where he played before staying home at Purdue.

Three players come from the Badger State of Wisconsin, including Chiefs left guard Mike Caliendo (Brookfield East, 2016).

Seven states feature twice in this game: Illinois, South Carolina, Nevada, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Michigan and Missouri. Kansas City WR DeAndre Hopkins was in the class of 2010 at DW Daniel (S.C.). Both Nevada representatives come from Bishop Gorman High School: Eagles OL Nick Gates (’14) and Chiefs safety Jaden Hicks (’21).

Maryland, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Nebraska, Kentucky, Utah, Massachusetts, Louisiana, Arizona and Iowa will each have one attendee at this year’s game. Philadelphia tight end Dallas Goedert is the lone player from the state of South Dakota (Britton-Hecla High School). Teammate and star wideout DeVonta Smith is out of the Amite (La.) class of 2017. Eagles defensive back and former Georgia Bulldog Kelee Ringo went to Saguaro HS in Arizona, and OABCIG’s Cooper DeJean stayed home in the state of Iowa for college ball before heading to Philly.
