There’s plenty to gawk over when analyzing the skillset of Belleville (Mich.) Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Bryce Underwood.

The nation’s top prospect threw for 3,329 yards, 41 touchdowns and just three interceptions as a junior en route to a 13-1 season in 2023. He also ran for seven scores, but finished the season with just 25 carries.

If Friday’s 2024 season-opener was any indication, Underwood will be keeping the football far more often as a senior. In a 35-28 victory on the road over Clarkston, The LSU commit dazzled on the feet, rushing for a pair of long touchdowns, one of which was a 55-yard dash that gave Belleville the lead with just over a minute left in the fourth quarter.

The 6-foot-4 signal-caller was able to weave through the Clarkston defense at will. He opened the game with a 48-yard run to the end zone on the Tigers’ first drive, though a penalty wiped it away. His first rushing score came on the first play from scrimmage in the second half, as he maneuvered and cut his way to a 37-yard score.

Underwood also completed a shovel pass that went for a touchdown in the first quarter, as well as a 14-yard TD throw in the middle of the third. Clarkston erased a 14-point lead late in the game, but the final Underwood run proved to be the difference.

“LSU QB commit Bryce Underwood has been a revelation on designed runs in his season opener,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote on X.

Underwood has remained the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle — per the On3 Industry Ranking — and continues to impress as he prepares to head to Baton Rouge next year. He committed to LSU on Jan. 6 and headlines the Tigers’ top-three recruiting class. Back in July, Power named Underwood one of the 25 most athletic football recruits in the 2025 cycle.

“In addition to being arguably the top arm talent in the 2025 cycle, Underwood owns a large, wide-shouldered frame and twitchy athleticism. Underwood is continuing to physically develop as one of the younger top prospects in the cycle,” he wrote.

Belleville entered this week as the No. 5 team in the state of Michigan, according to the On3 Massey Ratings. Now 1-0, the Tigers will remain on the road next week when they take on Stevenson. Their home-opener is set for Sept. 13 against Churchill.
