The accolades keep on coming for Duke commit Cameron Boozer. In addition to leading Columbus High School to a fourth consecutive Florida high school basketball Class 7A state championship, he won the prestigious Gatorade National Player of the Year award for boys basketball.

Boozer edged Riverside’s Brayden Burries and Holy Innocents Episcopal’s Caleb Wilson for this recognition. Meanwhile, the two-time Florida Mr. Basketball recipient became only the fourth player (after LeBron James, Greg Oden, and Brandon Knight) to win two National Gatorade Player of the Year Awards. Boozer first won in 2023, with NBA player Kevin Love announcing it to him.

The 6-foot-10 forward dominated the opposition this season, averaging 22.6 points, 12 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. His numbers helped the Explorers to finish with a 27-3 record and become the nation’s top team based on the On3 Composite Team Rankings.

Likewise, Columbus rewarded him and his brother, Cayden Boozer, with the ultimate honor of having their jersey numbers retired.

Boozer remains elite beyond his chosen sport

However, former NBA player Carlos Boozer’s son won’t become the 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year just because of basketball. In addition to maintaining a 4.88 grade point average, he also plays for the local orchestra and leads weekly bible study at Fellowship Church. Cameron Boozer is also a mathematics peer tutor, specializing in algebra and geometry.

While Boozer excels on several fronts, it’s his basketball talent that people remember first. It’s an undeniable trait that earned commendation from opposing coaches. As published on the Gatorade Player of the Year website, Gonzaga College High School coach Steve Turner said:

“What makes Cam special on the court is his ability to let the game come to him. He is able to score it at all three levels, and he never seems to get rattled. He has a great next-play mentality.”

His imposing presence on the hardwood led him to a McDonald’s All-American selection and a finalist for the Naismith High School Player of the Year award. In international basketball, Boozer won gold medals in the FIBA Americas U16 and U17 World Cup tournaments. Unsurprisingly, he was the Most Valuable Player in both competitions.

Cameron Boozer joins Oklahoma commit Aaliyah Chavez as the 2025 Gatorade National Players of the Year for high school basketball.
