Carmelo Anthony takes on a basketball role at his high school alma mater

Carmelo Anthony continues to be an influential basketball figure after serving as one of the FIBA World Cup’s global ambassadors. This time, the ten-time NBA All-Star will be lending a hand to his high school alma mater.
Cardinal News’s Robert Anderson reported that Virginia’s Oak Hill Academy hired Anthony as their co-general manager. He will work with his business manager, Bay Frazier, in building the private school’s boys’ basketball Gold squad.
After playing three seasons for Maryland’s Towson Catholic, Carmelo Anthony transferred to Oak Hill for his senior year. The three-time Olympic gold medalist also considered Hargrave Military Academy but chose the school at Mouth of Wilson. Anthony led the Warriors to a 32-1 record during the 2001-02 season, making them one of the nation’s elite high school basketball teams.
As a team, Oak Hill won the Les Schwab Invitational and the Nike Academy National Invitational. Individually, Anthony averaged 21.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, and four assists per game. Those numbers earned him invitations to the Jordan Brand Classic and the McDonald’s All-American Game. Likewise, he was on the USA Today All-USA First Team and the Parade First-Team All-American rosters.

Anthony played one season of college basketball for the Syracuse Orange, leading them to the 2003 NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball national championship. After which, he played in 20 NBA seasons for five different teams.
He finished his career with two All-NBA Second-Team selections and one scoring championship. His accomplishments made him worthy of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. Anthony is also a part of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2025 which will be inducted in September.
Having Carmelo Anthony in the fold could help Oak Hill’s Gold team return to its past glory. While the Warriors have nine high school basketball national championships, their last victory was in 2016. Meanwhile, John Zito will be coaching the Warriors’ Gold Team. The former head coach at Baltimore’s John Carroll High School also handles Team Melo, Anthony’s AAU program.
