Colorado High School Football Rankings: Top 25 teams — Sept. 23

After another great weekend of high school football across the state of Colorado, the top-25 rankings in the Centennial State have been updated.

Denver-area powerhouse Cherry Creek remains at No. 1, but a handful of undefeated teams are nipping at their heels.

Below are the top 25 teams in the state after Week 4, according to the On3 Massey Ratings.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory. According to the model — four teams from Alabama rank inside the nationwide top 100.

Top 10 teams in latest Colorado High School Football Rankings

1. Cherry Creek (3-1)
2. Valor Christian (4-0)
3. Mountain Vista (4-0)
4. Columbine (4-0)
5. Ralston Valley (4-0)
6. Pine Creek (3-1)
7. Palmer Ridge (4-0)
8. Legend (3-1)
9. Chatfield (4-0)
10. Fairview (4-0)

Cherry Creek pulled off a huge 51-39 victory on the road at what was a top-25 Highland Park (Texas) squad, and the Bruins have now won two of their three games this season against out-of-state opponents. No. 2 Valor Christian downed Mullen 46-20, while Pine Creek dominated Arapahoe 34-12 in a matchup between two top-10 teams.

14. Broomfield (4-0)
15. Montrose (4-0)

Castle View remained undefeated by beating previously unbeaten Douglas County 31-14. Arapahoe, Broomfield and Montrose all did the same, while Regis got its first win of the season in a 35-14 rout of Fossil Ridge.

After losing a pair of games to top-10 opponents Mountain Vista and Ralston Valley, Erie got back on track with a 42-14 win over Fort Collins, setting up a big showdown with No. 14 Broomfield this weekend. Dakota Ridge, meanwhile, outclassed rival Pomona 34-12 to move to 3-1 ahead of a top-25 tilt against Cherokee Trail.

Arvada West made easy work of an overmatched Overland squad in a 42-0 victory. Eaglecrest squeaked by Denver East 17-7 to get to 3-1, and Fountain-Fort Carson rolled past Lakewood 49-0. After an idle week, they’ll face off with No. 24 Douglas County on October 4.
