Columbus High School promotes Jorge Milo to head coaching role

Columbus High School didn’t look far in finding Andrew Moran’s replacement. Instead of considering external candidates, the Explorers looked inward by naming Jorge Milo as their next head coach. He will be replacing Moran, who will take on a coaching role with the University of Miami.
As Moran’s deputy for six years, Milo has been integral to Columbus’s success. He helped the Explorers win four consecutive Florida High School Athletic Association Class 7A state championships. This year, the Florida boys basketball powerhouse closed their campaign with a 17-game winning streak.
In addition to that title, Columbus won the Chipotle Nationals over Dynamic Prep, making them high school basketball’s national champions. That victory capped off their 30-3 record this season, making them the nation’s best team, based on the On3 Composite Team Rankings.
Milo’s campaign comes at a monumental transition period for Columbus High School. Two of their top players, twins Cayden and Cameron Boozer, are off to Duke after an illustrious high school basketball career. However, they are not the only ones leaving for college, as Michael Feenane, Bryce Hinson, Benny Fragela, Isaiah Medina, and Adrian Nunez have played their final games for Columbus.

However, it doesn’t mean that the Explorers will run out of firepower. They will still have Jaxon Richardson, who helped defeat Dynamic Prep with nine points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. Likewise, Caleb Gaskins, Cello Jackson, Keeper Jackson, Nicholas Mereilles, Isaiah Trelles, and Zeljko Sekulovic will comprise next season’s core.
Jorge Milo will be the appropriate mentor to lead Columbus High School in the 2025-26 season. In addition to understanding the team’s winning culture, his playing experience should help him relate to the young student athletes.
Milo is a Miami native who played for Miami Sunset High School from 2009 to 2012. After high school, he played for the NCAA Division II school Maine-Machias, wherein he posted averages of 20.8 points and 5.3 assists per game as a senior.
