Corner Canyon WR Jerome Myles collects three TDs in upset win over IMG Academy
Corner Canyon (Utah) High stole the high school football headlines on Thursday night, as the No. 11 Chargers defeated No. 9 IMG Academy (Fla.) in a 35-34 thriller, planting its flag on the map of high school powerhouses in the process.
The victory snapped an 18-game winning streak for IMG. Heading the attack under center for Corner Canyon was junior quarterback Helaman Casuga, who threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns. Three of those scores went to star wide receiver Jerome Myles — one of the top uncommitted senior prospects in the nation.
The touted IMG defense was no match for Myles’ combination of speed and athleticism, as he was able to break free multiple times throughout the night, besting the Ascenders’ secondary for five total catches and 125 yards.
“(Myles) has an elite blend of size, speed and strength and showed the ability to win in multiple phases,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote on Friday, commending Myles’ performance.
Through two games, Myles now has four touchdowns. In last week’s season-opening drubbing of American Fork (Utah), the Chargers (2-0) put up 70 points, six of which came via an 80-yard TD to the speedy wideout. Casuga threw for nearly 500 yards in the win.
