Mesquite (Texas) Horn high school football will have a new head coach for the 2025 season, Mesquite ISD announced on Monday.

Courtney Allen will not return to his post after spending the last three seasons at the helm of the Jaguars. Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football first reported the news.

Following a successful 8-3 campaign in 2022, Horn went 5-5 in 2023 and is now coming off an abysmal 2-8 year last season that saw it finish as the No. 205 team in the Lone Star State, according to the On3 Composite Rankings.

Horn was not the beneficiary of realignment, as it found itself in Class 6A Division II District 11 and had to take on some of the state’s top teams in 2024, including national top-10 foes in DeSoto and Duncanville. The Jaguars allowed over 34 points per game and lost four games by one possession.

Prior to making the move to Horn, Allen was the head coach at North Crowley for four seasons. His first year at Horn led to its first winning season since 2017. Since 2010, the Jaguars have won seven or more games six times.

Their 2024 roster included touted offensive tackle Lamont Rogers, who finished as a five-star prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He signed with Texas A&M in December.

The 2025 Horn roster is set to feature multiple ranked prospects in safety Markel Ford and offensive tackle Kole Seaton. Ford is a former Texas A&M pledge, while Seaton is currently committed to Baylor.
