District of Columbia High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Oct. 17
As of Oct. 17, there were no significant changes in the District of Columbia On3 Massey Ratings top 25 list. The top ten teams, especially the ones in the first three spots, have retained their positions. Here’s where the District of Columbia high school football’s best teams are after another round of games in October.
The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. Gonzaga
The Eagles lost a home game against DeMatha Catholic, Maryland’s third-best team, 28-14. Gonzaga scored all its points in the fourth quarter, but that wasn’t enough for a victory. It’s the Eagles’ second loss in their last three games after dropping their match against Malvern Prep. The Eagles can bounce back with a win against Bishop McNamara, Maryland’s 16th-best squad, on Oct. 26.
2. St. John’s College
The Cadets’ four-game winning streak ended after losing to Good Counsel, Maryland’s fourth-ranked team. There were commendable players despite the loss, starting with Dajon Talley Rhodes, who finished with 144 rushing yards and a touchdown. St. John’s can rediscover their winning ways by beating Bishop McNamara on the 19th.
3. Friendship Collegiate Academy
After winning their first four games, the Knights have dropped two consecutive games and scored 12 points combined. Friendship Collegiate generated only six points against St. Michael, Virginia’s 14th-best squad. Conversely, they gave up 30, the most they’ve allowed this season. The Knights can bounce back with a win against Mt. Zion Prep on the 18th.
4. Dunbar
After a tough loss to Friendship Collegiate, the Crimson Tide have rattled off three consecutive victories, including a shutout victory against Ballou. Dunbar has two consecutive shutout wins and has surrendered only six points in the last three games. The Crimson Tide can extend their winning streak by defeating Roosevelt.
5. Archbishop Carroll
The Lions ended their three-game losing streak after scoring a victory against Bishop Ireton 27-14. That win improved Archbishop Carroll’s record to 2-4 with four games left in their season. They could finish with a winning record by sweeping Paul VI, Bishop O’Connell, St. Mary’s Ryken, and Saint John Paul the Great in their remaining matches.
6. St. Albans School
The Bulldogs bounced back after losing to Paul VI on the road, defeating Episcopal 24-17. It’s their lowest-scoring output in their five victories. They can start another winning streak by defeating Georgetown Prep on the 18th.

7. Woodson H.D.
The Warriors have won three straight games after edging Roosevelt 22-15. They’ve given up only 27 points in their five victories, making them the fifth-best defense in District of Columbia high school football. Woodson can extend their winning streak by defeating Coolidge on the road.
8. Roosevelt
After winning their first five games, the Roughriders suffered their first loss against Woodson 22-15. David Anderson had 107 passing yards and a touchdown in the losing effort, while Deyon Smith and Gabriel Hudgens added a touchdown each. Roosevelt can bounce back with a win against Jackson-Reed.
9. Maret School
The Frogs are on a three-game winning streak after defeating St. James 58-42. Throughout that stretch, Maret has outscored their opponents 135-48. However, their schedule gets tougher because they will play their next three games on the road (Potomac School, Flint Hill, Rocktown).
10. Eastern
After a one-point loss to Roosevelt, the Ramblers edged the Coolidge Colts 34-27. Jeremiah Hubbard threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns, while Daquan Ginyard added 145 rushing yards and a touchdown. Eastern will close its schedule with a road game to Ballou, plus home games against Woodson and Dunbar.
