Duncanville, Guyer win 2024-25 Texas High School boys basketball Class 6A State Championship

The Duncanville Panthers and the Guyer Wildcats are the current kings of Texas high school boys basketball Class 6A. Duncanville defeated Bellaire in a thrilling championship game to win the Class 6A Division 1 state title.

TCU commit Kayden Edwards led Duncanville with 23 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Christopher Hunt Jr. added 14 points, while Cam Smith finished with nine points and 11 rebounds. Meanwhile, Bellaire nearly pulled off the victory despite having a six-man rotation. Duke-bound Shelton Henderson paced the Cardinals with 25 points, while Anthony Andrews finished with 17.

It was a tight contest throughout this Texas high school boys basketball game with no team leading in double digits. However, while Duncanville won by only two points, they dominated the interior with 34 points in the paint, ten more than Bellaire’s output. The Panthers also led in fastbreak points (15-8) and points off turnovers (13-9).

This victory ended Duncanville’s 2024-25 season with a 27-7 record, closing their campaign as the fourth-best team in the Texas On3 Composite Team Rankings. The Panthers defeated Temple, Wylie, Grand Oaks, Rockwall, and Allen before reaching the state title game.

Conversely, Bellaire finished at 22-11, ranking them 32nd in the Lone Star State. The Cardinals upset top-ranked Brennan to face Duncanville for the championship.

Guyer edges Katy Jordan to win Texas high school basketball Class 6A Division 2 state title

In the other Class 6A title game, Guyer took home the Division 2 crown via a one-point win over Katy Jordan. While the Wildcats started strong via a 17-9 first quarter lead, the Warriors stormed back in the next two quarters. Jordan outscored Guyer in the second (12-9) and third (15-8) quarters.

The nip-and-tuck fourth quarter ended with Silas Rodriguez’s three-pointer with 29 seconds left in this Texas high school boys basketball thriller. Katy Jordan’s Jude Oluokun converted a layup to trim the lead to one but couldn’t convert a basket in their final possession.

Rodriguez led Guyer with 20 points, while Jordan Lowery added eight points and ten rebounds. Jaden Holt led the Warriors with 13 points, while Oluokun finished with 11. The Wildcats finished the year with a 34-7 record, good for 11th in the state’s On3 Composite Rankings. They defeated McKinney, Dallas Jesuit, Crowley, Frenship, and College Park before reaching the state title game.

Despite the loss,  Katy Jordan had an impressive 35-4 record, ranking them ninth in Texas. They defeated Foster, Cypress Falls, King, Shadow Creek, and Harlan to reach the state championship game.
