The Miami Northwestern Bulls had a dominating performance in their Jan. 14 Florida high school boys basketball game. They defeated Booker T. Washington, 115-13, improving their record to 14-3.

No, the final score wasn’t a misprint as Melvin Randall’s crew reached triple digits for the first time this season. The Bulls were relentless against the Tornadoes, as they established an 83-2 halftime lead. While their offense cooled down in the second half, the Bulls kept their guard up defensively for the 102-point victory.

In addition to this lopsided win, Miami Northwestern extended their winning streak to four games. The Bulls manifested total team effort, with six players scoring in double digits. Dwight Carter led the way with 23 points, five assists, and five steals.

Jayden Navarrete added 21 points, while Calvin Russell Jr. had 16 points and five steals. Zacuras Dawson and Jamiro Smith had 14 points each, while Jakeel Baker tallied 12 points. The Bulls finished with a whopping 30 steals. Likewise, Miami Northwestern converted 15 three-point attempts, putting the result of this Florida high school boys basketball game out of the question.

While the defeat kept the Tornadoes winless after 11 matches, the Bulls are one win away from matching their 2023-24 win total. They have been excellent on the road, losing only one match out of nine games. Conversely, their three losses were by a total of ten points.

Meanwhile, Miami Northwestern’s strong start made them the 25th-best team in the Florida On3 Composite Team Rankings. However, a tougher challenge awaits the Bulls as they face Miami Central on Jan. 14.

Last season, the Bulls went 15-8 and lost to Rockledge in the Florida high school boys basketball Class 5A regional quarterfinals. However, after seeing their high school football counterparts under Teddy Bridgewater win a state championship, the Bulls basketball team might take inspiration to follow suit.
