One of the top high school football programs in Florida is in search of a new head coach.

On Tuesday, Edgewater‘s Cam Duke announced on Twitter that he was leaving the school after eight years to take the head coaching job at Georgia stronghold Marietta. In November, Marietta head coach Richard Morgan stepped down after nine years leading the program — which included 14-2 season and a Class 7A state championship in 2019 — the school’s first in more than 50 years.

Duke led Edgewater to a 10-2 record and a Class 5A regional semifinal appearance this season before losing to Tampa Bay Tech. During his tenure, Edgewater made it to the 2019 and 2020 Class 7A state championships, falling to private school powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas.

He compiled an 85-15 record during his eight seasons with the program, which began in 2017. In the season prior to Duke’s arrival, Edgewater finished 0-10.

“I am filled with a mix of overwhelming emotions as I announce my decision to step down as the head football coach at Edgewater High School,” he said in part of a long statement on Twitter. “I have just accepted the head coaching position at Marietta High School in Marietta, Georgia. Please know that this was anything but an easy decision, as my heart is deeply rooted in this community. However, I believe this new opportunity will allow me to grow as a coach and continue to make a positive impact on the lives of young athletes. To my players: Thank you for your hard work, your immense trust, and your relentless dedication. You inspire me every day and I am so proud of everything you’ve accomplished thus far.”

He takes over a Marietta program that has slipped down the pecking order of Georgia football since its state championship. The Blue Devils were 48-57 over the aforementioned Morgan’s time with the program, including a 2-8 season in 2024.

The school is in one of the most talent-rich areas of the country though, and has turned out names such as former LSU star BJ Ojulari, ex-Georgia standout Azeez Ojulari, 2020 Los Angeles Chargers draft pick Kimani Vidal, and former top-5 national recruit Arik Gilbert, among others.
