Jon Richt, son of former Georgia Bulldogs head coach, lands job at top Peach State program

Jon Richt, the son of former Georgia head football coach Mark Richt, is taking over one of the top high school programs in the Peach State.
On Monday, the elder Richt tweeted that his son — who was on staff as the quarterbacks coach at Miami from 2016-18 — will be leading Prince Avenue Christian‘s program in Bogart.
He takes over the head coaching job after three seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator under former coach Greg Vandagriff, the father of former UGA and Kentucky quarterback Brock Vandagriff.
Under Vandagriff’s watch, Prince Avenue Christian won more than 100 games since he took over in 2016, including five consecutive state championship appearances and three state titles.
Prince Avenue Christian is coming off of a 56-28 loss in December’s state championship game to Hebron Christian, which ended their hopes at a three-peat. The Wolverines’ offense has been dynamic the past three years with Richt calling the shot, averaging better than 44 points a game and rolling to a 38-5 record.

Richt played quarterback for the Wolverines when the Prince Avenue Christian varsity football team was established in 2005. Following the end of his high school career, he joined the program at Clemson for one season. He then transferred to Mars Hill College, where as a senior started every game and set program records in completions, attempts, yards, and touchdown passes.
He then spent the 2014 season serving on his father’s staff at Georgia as a quality control assistant before jumping to an entry-level role in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills.
When his father took over in Coral Gables he moved back to the college level, serving for three years as the team’s quarterback coach. But he was fired, along with the rest of the previous staff, when new coach Manny Diaz took over.
Between then and his time as the OC at Prince Avenue Christian, he opened a quarterback training facility in Buford.
