After a wild week of postponements and cancellations due to the effects of Hurricane Helene, high school football was front and center in Georgia again over the weekend. There were a number of big matchups on tap, which have had a big impact on the updated state rankings.

There’s a new No. 1 for the second week in a row, as well as two new top-25 teams and a new entrant into the state’s top 10.

Below are the top 25 rankings heading into the second week of October in the Peach State:

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

1. Carrollton

Previous Rank: No. 2 (+1)
After being off on a bye week following their huge 48-26 win over Alabama No. 9 Parker, Carrollton rolled past Atlanta Westlake 63-27 behind another huge performance from five-star quarterback Julian Lewis. The Trojans now have two games they’ll be heavily favored in before their regular-season finale against No. 10 Douglas County.

2. Lee County

Previous Rank: No. 2 (-1)
The Trojans have dropped one spot to No. 2 in the rankings after their game against No. 9 Coffee was delayed a week due to issues caused by the hurricane. With just a sliver of space between them and Carrollton, a win this week would almost certainly push them back to the top spot.

3. Milton

Previous Rank: No. 3
Milton’s dominance continued against Lanier on Friday night, as their offense put up 40-plus points for the fourth consecutive game en route to a 44-7 victory. The challenge gets significantly tougher this weekend though, as they’ll travel to No. 18 Gainesville for what should be a terrific battle.

4. Buford

Previous Rank: No. 5 (+1)
Coming off a bye, the Wolves showed no rust in a 34-7 domination of then-No. 12 Collins Hill. Junior quarterback Dayton Raiola continued his strong start to the season, and Buford is projected as the heavy favorite in each of its next three games.

5. North Gwinnett

Previous Rank: No. 4 (-1)
North Gwinnett sits at 6-0 after a convincing 44-22 win over Peachtree Ridge on Friday night. It’ll be a quick turnaround though, as they’ll be back on the field Wednesday for a makeup game against 1-5 Berkmar.

6. North Cobb

Previous Rank: No. 6
North Cobb is off to an impressive 6-0 start after routing Walton 42-14 two weeks ago. Up next is a tilt with 1-5 Marietta on October 11 after a couple of idle weeks.

7. Grayson

Previous Rank: No. 7
After initially being rescheduled to Monday night because of Hurricane Helene, Grayson’s game against Newton was again postponed due to the ‘lingering effects’ of Sunday’s chemical fire in Rockdale County, according to the school. The Rams were scheduled to play Heritage on Friday night, but that was postponed to this coming Wednesday.

8. Thomas County Central

Previous Rank: No. 8
Thomas County Central easily took care of business against Veterans, dominating in a 61-10 blowout. Now 6-1, they’ll head to the bye week before facing two ranked opponents in their final three games of the season.

9. Coffee

Previous Rank: No. 9
The Trojans were set for a huge matchup against No. 2 Lee County, but it was postponed until this Friday after lingering issues from the hurricane.

10. Douglas County

Previous Rank: No. 11 (+1)
Douglas County enters the top 10 after an impressive 42-17 win over East Coweta on Friday night. They’ll welcome Westlake this weekend before heading to their lone bye week of the season.
