Georgia High School Football

The Georgia high school football rankings have taken shape six weeks through the 2024 season.

There’s just one new entrant in the On3 Massey Ratings Peach State top 25 this week as the rest of the rankings continue to make minimal shifts heading into the final weekend of September.

Below is a look at the updated top 25 programs in the state of Georgia, as of Sept. 23.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory. According to the model — four teams from Alabama rank inside the nationwide top 100.

1. Carrollton

Previous Rank: No. 2 (+1)
Behind the electric arm of USC QB commit Julian Lewis, Carrollton is the top-ranked team in the state of Georgia for the first time this season. The 6-0 Trojans went to Birmingham and stomped Parker High by 22 points last week and have now leaped Milton — which held the top spot in the state for the first chunk of the year. Carrollton is averaging over 43 points per game thus far and is now entering a bye week before returning on Oct. 4 to take on Atlanta Westlake.

2. Milton

Previous Rank: No. 1 (-1)
Milton continues to excel on both sides of the ball this season and is now 5-0 following a 47-0 shutout at home against Chattahoochee. The Eagles have allowed two touchdowns or less in four of its five wins thus far. They’ll now embark on a three-game road trip, beginning with a game in Buford against Seckinger this Friday.

3. Lee County

Previous Rank: No. 3
The top-ranked offense in the state of Georgia currently resides in Leesburg, as Lee County continues to dominate opposing defenses. Averaging 55 points per game, the Trojans already have a pair of ranked wins this season, defeating No. 25 Warner Robins and No. 20 Colquitt County. The biggest test of the season awaits this Friday, however, as No. 5 Thomas County Central heads to town for a battle of elite undefeated squads.

4. North Gwinnett

Previous Rank: No. 6 (+2)
One of the biggest surprises in the state so far this season, North Gwinnett kicked off its 2024 campaign with a 3-0 stretch on the road, then returned home for a pair of easy victories at home. The 5-0 Bulldogs have allowed less than 20 points in four of their wins and will look to keep the momentum rolling at Lilburn Berkmar on Friday.

5. Thomas County Central

Previous Rank: No. 5
Thomas County Central is off to a breezy 5-0 start, though the competition hasn’t been fierce. Nonetheless, the Yellow Jackets also boast one of the state’s top offenses, making this week’s matchup at No. 3 Lee County a potential barnburner. TCC is coming off of a bye week, but crushed Bainbridge 63-7 in its last time out.

6. Buford

Previous Rank: No. 4 (-2)
Buford’s shaky start to the 2024 season has been corrected thanks to three consecutive impressive wins, two of which came over ranked opponents, including No. 11 Douglas County. The Wolves, now 4-1, are idle this week, but will look to pick up right where they left off on Oct. 4, welcoming in No. 12 Collins Hill for their first home game since August.

7. North Cobb

Previous Rank: No. 11 (+4)
One of the biggest risers in the state this week, North Cobb made yet another statement last week, decimating top-30 Walton by 28 points on the road to improve to 6-0 on the season. The Warriors are averaging over 41 points per game and have allowed just 46 points in its last three outings. They now enter a two-week bye and won’t return to the field until Oct. 11 when they host Marietta.

8. Grayson

Previous Rank: No. 7 (-1)
Since losing to Collins Hill in a season-opening upset, Grayson has been one of the top defensive teams in the state. The Rams won three games in a row against out-of-state competition, including a gusty road win over Thompson, the No. 3 team in Alabama. Last time out, they picked up their first in-state win of the season, dismantling Grovetown 63-0. Grayson gets back on the road this week to take on Covington Newton.

9. Coffee

Previous Rank: No. 8 (-1)
Coffee’s five-game home stand will come to a conclusion this Friday when they host Warner Robins Northside. The 5-0 Trojans went undefeated against Florida opposition across its last three games, most recently skating past Daytona Beach Mainland 10-7 last weekend. Coffee’s defense is allowing just over 11 points per game so far this season. An important game at No. 3 Lee County looms large on Oct. 4.

10. Mill Creek

Previous Rank: No. 12 (+2)
After taking its first loss of the season to No. 4 North Gwinnett, Mill Creek rebounded nicely last week, clobbering Lawrenceville Mountain View 42-0 to improve to 4-1 on the season. The Hawks have scored 40 or more points three times so far this fall and are projected to hit that number once again on Friday when they host Central Gwinnett.
