1. Milton
Previous Ranking: No. 1
After a successful 3-0 start to the season, Milton was idle last weekend. The Eagles currently check in with the state’s No. 3 defense, per the Massey Ratings, and will be put to the test on the road for the first time this season. Blessed Trinity Catholic, this week’s No. 26 team in the state, awaits on Friday evening in Roswell.
2. Carrollton
Previous Ranking: No. 2
Carrollton’s sluggish week one performance is far in the rearview mirror, as the Trojans (4-0) have turned up the heat across the past couple of weeks. A 63-0 shutout win over Lithia Springs last Friday saw USC QB commit Julian Lewis throw for six touchdowns. Lewis has already eclipsed 1,000 passing yards this season and has hurled 18 TDs to just one interception. The toughest test of the season thus far comes on Friday night, when No. 13 Gainesville (3-0) comes to town.
3. Douglas County
Previous Ranking: No. 11 (+8)
Two touchdowns from junior RB Zamarcus Lindley propelled Douglas County to a crucial 21-14 win at home over ranked Langston Hughes last weekend. The win improved the Tigers to 4-0 on the season and resulted in a major eight-spot jump in the state rankings. Checking in with a top-10 defense in the state, Douglas Co. gets right back on the horse for another big game this Friday, as No. 7 Buford makes the trip to Douglasville.
4. North Gwinnett
Previous Ranking: No. 12 (+8)
North Gwinnett has arguably the best résumé in the state up to this point following a gutsy 37-34 win on the road over then-No. 3 Mill Creek last week. The Bulldogs are now 3-0 on the season and 3-0 away from home, including a pair of ranked wins. Quarterback Ryan Hall had over 300 total yards and two scores in the victory over Mill Creek. Now No. 4 in the state, North Gwinnett finally makes its 2024 home debut on Friday against Brookwood.
5. Thomas County Central
Previous Ranking: No. 6 (+1)
Despite being the away team for its rivalry matchup against Thomasville, Thomas County Central cruised to a 48-10 victory to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Yellow Jackets have scored 44 or more points in each game so far and enter this week with a top-five offense in the state. They’re favored heavily again this week in a home tilt against Bainbridge that’s set for Friday night.
6. Coffee
Previous Ranking: No. 4 (-2)
The Trojans (3-0) were idle last week following a 27-point win to close out August. Coffee’s defense ranks No. 4 in the state, as of Sept. 9, and will face a challenging test this weekend when undefeated Gadsden County (Fla.) makes the trip North to Douglas. Coffee is favored to win each of its next three games as an October road trip to Lee County looms.
7. Buford
Previous Ranking: No. 13 (+6)
Some early adversity through the first two weeks of the season left people wondering if Buford was going to be its usual self in 2024. Many of those questions were answered following a 52-17 splattering of ranked Roswell on the road last week. Six different players scored for the Wolves in the win. The chance to reassert even more dominance awaits this Friday when they head to No. 3 Douglas County for potentially the biggest game in the state so far this year.
8. Grayson
Previous Ranking: No. 8
Grayson now has a pair of impressive wins outside of its home state this season following a 28-14 road win over Mallard Creek, the No. 5 team in North Carolina. Junior QB Travis Burgess threw two early touchdowns that helped build a 21-point lead at halftime. The Rams’ defense did the rest, improving their record to 3-1. Grayson is idle this week and is scheduled to return on Sept. 20 for a home bout against Grovetown.

9. Collins Hill
Previous Ranking: No. 9
The Eagles haven’t been impressive on offense so far this season, but they haven’t needed to be. The Collins Hill defense hasn’t allowed 20 points in each of its four wins thus far, with the latest effort resulting in a 27-10 win on the road over Parkview in Lilburn. The program out of Suwanee is also idle this week and will look to remain undefeated when it hosts Central Gwinnett on Sept. 20.
10. Mill Creek
Previous Ranking: No. 3 (-7)
The Hawks had plenty of opportunities to take down North Gwinnett on its home field last week, but it wasn’t in the cards late. Now 3-1, Mill Creek remains on a track to finish as one of the state’s top programs in 2024 behind dynamic Alabama commit Luke Metz. Like Grayson and Collins Hill, the Hawks are also idle this week and will get back to action on Sept. 20 when they head to Lawrenceville to take on Mountain View.
