IMG Academy looking for new head coach after Billy Miller's reported departure for UNC job
The premier high school football program in the country is looking for a new coach, according to its website.
Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy has posted an opening for the head coach of its national football team after current head coach Billy Miller reportedly accepted a job on Bill Belichick’s staff at North Carolina. There has been no formal announcement of his hiring, but IMG confirmed to SI High School’s Andy Villamarzo that Miller is no longer the head coach at the school.
“Billy Miller has resigned from his position as IMG Academy National Football Team Head Coach to pursue other opportunities,” read a statement from Kyle Brey, IMG Academy’s Director of Football Operations. “Since 2014, Coach Miller has been an integral part of our football program, serving in various roles. In his tenure as head coach, he led our national team to a 25-3 record, including a national championship last season. While we will greatly miss his leadership and the impact he has made on our student-athletes, we remain confident in our program’s strong foundation of leadership, coaches, and support staff, who will continue to uphold the highest standards of student-athlete development.
… “The national football team head coach position at IMG Academy is the premier high school football coaching job in the nation, and we expect significant interest from top candidates as we work to have a new head coach in place by this spring.”
Guytano Bartolomo, a Class of 2025 kicker, referenced Miller in a tweet about his commitment to the Tar Heels earlier this despite there being no official word of his hiring.

Miller had been IMG’s head coach since 2022, leading them to a 25-3 record in those three seasons, including an 18-game winning streak. The school, which recruits from other programs around the country, won a mythical national championship in 2020.
But with Miller leaving, it is looking for its fifth coach in seven years after extensive turnover.
Ascenders regularly land some of the nation’s top prospects
The 2024 season was IMG’s least successful by its extremely high standards. It lost a pair of games to Corner Canyon (Utah) and Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy. That marked the first multiple-loss season by the Ascenders’ national team since 2013 and the early-season loss to Corner Canyon snapped the 18-game winning streak the program had been on.
IMG annually fills its roster with top talent from across the country, pulling elite players not only from Florida, but states like Texas, California, Pennsylvania, Illinois and more. The 2024 team featured 14 players who signed with Power 4 programs, including five-star lineman and Alabama signee Michael Carroll.
Along with those dozen-plus senior standouts, more than 20 of the nation’s top juniors and sophomores suited up for IMG, which has had more than 15 players taken in the NFL Draft since 2017.
