2027 No. 1 recruit transferring to Georgia powerhouse Benedictine Military School
The No. 1 high school football recruit in the sophomore class is on the move.
LaDamion Guyton, an edge rusher from Savannah (Ga.) will play his junior season at Benedictine Military School after playing the past two seasons at Savannah Christian Prep, he confirmed to Dennis Knight of the Savannah Morning News.
The news about the 6-foot-3, 230-pounder first surfaced on January 3, when longtime recruiting analyst Tom Lemming posted an interview clip on Twitter where Guyton introduced himself as playing for Benedictine. Knight later confirmed that report.
“It was a tough decision to transfer and there were a lot of personal factors involved,” Guyton told the Savannah Morning News. “But the main thing was I think playing at Benedictine will open up opportunities for me by going against better competition. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot playing for Savannah Christian, but I think Benedictine is the best place for me now.”
Benedictine plays at the Class 4A level in Georgia, facing off against some of the state’s top players and teams. The Cadets are coming off a 7-5 season in 2024 but won state titles in both 2022 and 2023.
Savannah Christian, a private school, plays against A Division 1 competition — largely other private institutions and small schools.

One of the most dominant high school football players nationally
Guyton was named the No. 1 overall recruit by On3 in its initial 2027 rankings earlier this year and holds more than 20 offers already. That list includes most of the SEC.
As a freshman, he was an All-Greater Savannah first-team selection after recording 82 tackles, with 19.5 for losses, to go along with 10 sacks. In his second year at the high school level, he totaled 52 tackles, including 13.5 for loss, to go with 6.5 sacks.
“When you’re thinking about the No. 1 player in the country in the initial rankings, you want a prospect that has gifts that will translate for years to come,” said Charles Power, On3’s Director of Scouting and Rankings. “Guyton certainly checks those boxes at a premium position. As others around him blossom he’ll be right there among the best for the entire cycle.”
