Wins haven’t been easy to come by for Arizona Compass Prep so far this season, but the Dragons notched a massive one on Monday afternoon at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass.

Despite shooting 29.8 percent from the field, Compass managed to sneak past No. 10 Montverde Academy (Fla.) for a gritty 45-41 victory. Buckets were hard to come by, but the Dragons found them when needed the most.

Gonzaga four-star shooting guard signee Davis Fogle won MVP honors after scoring a game-high 12 points on 4-13 shooting. He also finished with seven rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal. Junior five-star power forward Miikka Muurinen had eight points, four of which came on one play in the final minute to help Compass seal the win.

Down 40-39 with 30 seconds to go, Muurinen found himself open in the corner and drained a 3-pointer while taking contact on his way down. He sank the free throw and gave Compass a lead that it wouldn’t relinquish. He also had two rebounds, a block and a steal on Monday.

Compass shot 14-47 from the floor. Of those 14 makes, 10 came from behind the arc. Fogle had three treys, while Texas A&M four-star combo guard signee Jeremiah Green and junior PG Kalek House each knocked down a pair.

Montverde finished the first quarter with 13 points and were unable to eclipse that mark in each of the final three periods. The Eagles shot 36 percent but were just 3-12 from deep and also finished a woeful 6-12 from the free throw line.

Florida four-star SG commit CJ Ingram led Montverde with 10 points and also had seven rebounds. Villanova four-star SG signee Dante Allen had nine, while Indiana four-star power forward signee Trent Sisley managed seven points and six boards.

The loss drops Montverde, the No. 10 team in the nation and No. 2 team in Florida per the On3 Composite, to 12-3 overall. The Eagles finish Hoophall with a 2-1 record after previously notching wins over Oak Hill Academy (Va.) and Utah Prep.

Compass, No. 39 in the nation and No. 2 in Arizona, has now notched three wins over top-30 programs nationally. The Dragons have also taken down Wasatch Academy (Utah) and Brewster Academy (N.H.) this season. They finish Hoophall at 1-1 after losing to Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.) on Sunday.
