Corona (Calif.) Centennial five-star quarterback Husan Longstreet is considered “day to day” for the Huskies’ season-opening game against No. 1 Mater Dei on Thursday, Aug. 22, Centennial head coach Matt Logan tells Dan Albano of the OC Register.

Longstreet, the No. 5 QB in the nation, is currently a game-time decision. Centennial, the No. 12 team in the nation per the On3 Massey Ratings, could be without its star signal-caller when it travels to Santa Ana later this week.

Committed to Texas A&M since April 14, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Longstreet is also the No. 26 overall prospect and No. 2 player in California, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

As a junior, Longstreet transferred to Centennial and threw for 3,013 yards, 24 touchdowns and just six interceptions while also rushing for 645 yards and an additional seven scores. Earlier this summer, he was named a top performer at the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles by On3’s Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power.

“The Texas A&M commit has a rocket launcher attached to his right shoulder. No quarterback on hand consistently threw with more velocity,” Power wrote. “He had multiple highlight throws including an absolute rope down the seam that went for a touchdown. Longstreet is a juiced up athlete with considerable twitch to his game. While the arm talent was well established coming in, he showed improved accuracy and ability to layer his throws, as well.”

The top-ranked Monarchs are currently projected to win the in-state showdown 42-14, according to the On3 Massey Ratings — a model officially used during the BCS era that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory. Mater Dei has won five consecutive games in the series.

Centennial opens the 2024 season as the No. 3 team in California. The Huskies finished 2023 with a 9-3 record, losing to St. John Bosco in the state semifinals.
