With another season of Illinois high school basketball underway, those included in the top 25 spots of the Illinois On3 Composite Rankings are off to great starts. They have stamped their class by dominating their first assignments.

That said, here are the state’s best teams after the first round of action, with one team included in the nationwide top 100. These rankings might change as the season progresses, and there’s a long way to go until the end.

The On3 Composite High School Basketball Team Ranking is a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected High School media and data companies. It includes Massey, Max Preps, Cal Preps, ESPN, and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced High School Team Ranking.

1. Bolingbrook

Illinois high school basketball’s top team won three of their first four games. After defeating O’Fallon on Nov. 26, they outclassed MacArthur by 13 points on Nov. 30 and Yorkville by 29 three days later. The 86th-best team in the nation will square off with Oswego on Dec. 6.

2. DePaul College Prep

While the Rams dropped their last match against Kenwood Academy by two points, they defeated Niles North, Phillips, and Lane Technical earlier this season. DePaul College Prep will try to bounce back against St. Rita on Dec. 6.

3. Glenbrook South

While the Titans dropped their last game against Lake Forest, they’ve won their two previous games against Hampshire and Huntley. Glenbrook South can rediscover their winning ways against Maine South on Dec. 6.

4. Curie Metropolitan

The Condors are soaring high to start the 2024 Illinois high school basketball season. They defeated North Lawndale to begin their campaign, 70-56, on Nov. 25. Eight days later, they dominated Farragut 68-40. Curie is up to 3-0 after squeaking past Lane Tech 48-46.

5. New Trier

After a disappointing loss to Chicago Mt. Carmel, the Trevians unleashed their fury on Butler, 82-24. With wins against Bulls College Prep and Loyola Academy, New Trier is up to 3-2. They can earn win number four this season by beating Deerfield on Dec. 6.

6. Homewood-Flossmoor

The Vikings have conquered their first five opponents this season, leading to a perfect 5-0 record. Their smallest victory margin is 13 points, achieved during their Nov. 27 game against Marian Catholic. Homewood-Flossmoor can extend their undefeated run against Whitney Young on Dec. 7.

7. Benet Academy

The Redwings are still in the top ten despite losing to St. Ignatius. Before that loss, they defeated King, Jones, and De La Salle. Benet Academy can get back on track against Niles West on Dec. 7.

8. Quincy

The Blue Devils remain perfect this season after earning victories over Lindblom, Dunlap, and St. Laurence. Quincy averages 75.6 points per game while limiting opponents to 46 points per contest. Quincy will face Geneseo on Dec. 6 for a chance at a 4-0 record.

9. Kenwood Academy

The Broncos defeated Martin Luther King and DePaul College Prep for their first two victories in the 2024 Illinois high school basketball season. Those were games of contrasts, as they defeated the Crusaders by 26 points while edging the Rams by two points. Kenwood Academy will face Taft in its next assignment.

10. Thornton Township

After winning their season opener against Freeport, the Wildcats have dropped four consecutive matches, including their 66-28 thrashing against Rich Township. Last year, they lost only five games and are in danger of tying that mark early in the season without a transformation.
