Illinois High School Football Coach Removed For Unacceptable Conduct
Nick Torresso won’t be coaching Illinois high school football after being relieved of his duties at Niles West High School. The decision came after District 219 launched an investigation regarding his alleged unacceptable practices.
The turn of events started in September 2024 when Tammy Caballero filed a complaint that her son incurred an injury during a football-related activity. An investigation ensued, leading the district officials to put Torresso on leave. Meanwhile, several people involved with the football team expressed their support for him.
Likewise, Chicago Tribune’s Richard Requena wrote that Torresso submitted a statement to Pioneer Press through his lawyer, Sabreena El-Amin, saying:
“I am also devastated that an athlete did not feel safe in the program. I pride myself in creating a safe space for my athletes and hate to see allegations like these related to a program that I am involved in.”
Furthermore, Torresso added that Caballero never texted him and wished for an avenue to address the concerns. Despite his claims and requests, District 219 officials decided to remove him from the team. The related document sent to Torresso highlighted his “failure to uphold safety standards.”

This finding led to Torresso being removed from all coaching positions in their Illinois high school football district. However, he will retain his role as a special education teacher.
Torresso took over the Niles West coaching role in 2021, replacing Matt Hohs. He led the Wolves to a 6-11 record in his first two seasons. However, they turned the tide in 2023, finishing at 6-4. Niles West finished with a 5-5 record this season. The Wolves are ranked 226th in the Illinois On3 Composite Team Rankings.
