The postseason is rapidly approaching across Illinois high school boys basketball and the On3 Composite Rankings have updated with the season beginning to come to an end.

Seven programs in the state rank as top-200 teams nationally. DePaul College Prep continues to check in as the top team in Illinois with one-loss Kenwood Academy not far behind at No. 2.

Below are the top 25 teams in Illinois, according to the On3 Composite, as of Feb. 20:

1. DePaul College Prep

Much of the season has seen DePaul College Prep check in as the top team in the state, and its a big favorite to end the campaign as No. 1, too. The Rams are now 26-3 with a big game against No. 9 Benet Academy on the docket for this Friday. DPCP, the No. 27 team in the nation, has rebounded nicely from a two-game skid last month, winning six in a row.

2. Kenwood Academy

Right behind in Chicago is Kenwood Academy, the No. 46 team nationally. Sitting at 27-1, the Broncos have now won 15 games in a row dating back to Dec. 28. While the numbers aren’t particularly overwhelming on either side of the ball, Kenwood finds a way to win and will be a tough out in the postseason.

3. Quincy

Following a tight 58-53 loss to Rock Island, Quincy now sits at 27-3 on the season ahead of tournament time. Before Tuesday’s loss, the Blue Devils had won seven games in a row. Their playoff journey begins next week on Feb. 26 against O’Fallon. Quincy ranks No. 74 nationally.

4. Homewood-Flossmoor

Now 27-3 on the season, Homewood-Flossmoor won 13 games in a row prior to a 6-point loss to Hillcrest on Feb. 15. During their winning streak, the Vikings, now No. 91 nationally, scored 80-plus points seven times. They defeated Andrew 79-36 last time out and are still set to make some noise in the postseason.

5. Hinsdale Central

Like Quincy and Homewood-Flossmoore, Hinsdale Central is also rebounding from a tough defeat, as it lost 58-55 at Lyons earlier this week. Before the defeat, the Red Devils had won 24 consecutive, steamrolling a majority of its competition. They now sit at 28-3 on the year.

6. Waubonsie Valley

Coming off a 75-59 win over Naperville Central in conference play, Waubonsie Valley is now 29-1 this season and hasn’t lost since Marist picked up a big upset win at the end of January. The Warriors have allowed 60 points just once this season. They head to DeKalb for another big clash this Friday.

7. Bolingbrook

After suffering a tight loss to Saint Louis Vashon, one of the top teams in Missouri, Bolingbrook has responded with a pair of wins and is now 27-4 this season. The Raiders rattled off a 12-game winning streak earlier this season and posses one of the state’s top defenses heading into the postseason.

8. Evanston Township

Sitting at 25-5 on the year, Evanston continues to hover around the back half of the top 10. After winning seven games in a row, the Wildkits faltered last time out, dropping a game to Niles North, 57-52. Their last ranked win came over No. 9 Benet Academy on Feb. 1.

9. Benet Academy

Now also 25-5 this season, Benet Academy awaits a major bout this Friday against top-ranked DePaul College Prep. The Redwings have stumbled against ranked competition at times this year but have a chance to ride some serious momentum into tourney time with a win on Friday night. Benet enters on a four-game winning streak.

10. Marist

Marist begins its playoff run against Blue Island Eisenhower next week on Feb. 26. Before then, it’ll round out the regular season against Evergreen Park on Thursday. The RedHawks have just two losses and have lost just once in their last 20 games.
