Iowa High School Basketball Rankings: On3 Composite Top 25 Teams - Dec. 13

The 2024-25 Iowa high school basketball season is in full swing. Based on the Iowa On3 Composite Rankings, the state’s best teams will aim for the state championship in their respective classes. They will also gain the most attention from the hundreds of games happening weekly. Here are Iowa’s top squads after the initial round of games.

The On3 Composite High School Basketball Team Ranking is a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected High School media and data companies. It includes Massey, Max Preps, Cal Preps, ESPN, and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced High School Team Ranking.

1. Kennedy

The Cougars won their first two games this season. After defeating Des Moines Roosevelt by 23 points (83-60), they dominated Amana 88-39. Kennedy outscored Amana in the first quarter, 26-4, and never looked back. Against the Clippers, Reuben Schlaak had 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals, while Jaxson Bean had 11 points and seven assists. The Cougars will compete for a 3-0 record when they host Washington on Dec. 13.

2. Des Moines Valley

The Tigers are 3-0 to start the Iowa high school basketball season. After earning convincing victories against Ankeny and Southeast Polk, they scored another win against Waukee Northwest 66-54. Kiki Deng led all scorers with 22 points, while Jayden McGregory added 19 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Valley can go to 4-0 if they defeat Dowling Catholic on Dec. 13.

3. Elgin Valley

After defeating Southeast Polk in their last match, the Tigers will head to Urbandale for their next game. Then, they will host Norwalk on Dec. 21 and Southeast Polk on Jan. 7. Also in their schedule are games against Ankeny, Johnston, Waukee, and Dubuque Senior.

4. Waukee

After back-to-back losses to Johnston and Linn-Mar, the Warriors bounced back via a victory against Southeast Polk 63-43. Evan Jacobson scored 18 points, pulled down 12 rebounds, and made four assists. Meanwhile, Maverick Inman contributed 14 points. Waukee will proceed with their Dec. 13 game against Ankeny.

5. Waukee Northwest

After winning their first two games, the Wolves lost 66-54 to Des Moines Valley. Despite the defeat, Waukee Northwest saw impressive performances from Bode Goodman (21 points) and Colin Rice (11 points, six rebounds). Meanwhile, Landon Davis collected ten rebounds and five blocks. The Wolves will try to regain their winning ways when they face Johnston on Dec. 13.

6. Cedar Falls

The Tigers earned their second win in the 2024-25 Iowa high school basketball season. After beating Waterloo East 64-24 in their season opener, they had another convincing victory against Linn-Mar 61-34. Anthony Galvin was their best player in that game, with 23 points. Leyton Wolf had 12 points, four rebounds, and two blocks. Cedar Falls can go to 3-0 with a victory over Iowa City West on Dec. 13.

7. Johnston

The Dragons are on a three-game winning streak to start the season. After opening the season with a victory over Southeast Polk, Johnston defeated Waukee and Ankeny. Against the Hawks, Tino Daye had 22 points, while Prestige Taylor contributed 12 points and three assists. Nitish Sankaranthi had 12 rebounds and two blocks. The Dragons will target a 4-0 record against Waukee Northwest on Dec. 13.

8. Ankeny Centennial

The Jaguars lost their first three games, all by double-digits. However, in their 69-54 loss to Dowling Catholic, Evan Abbott had 20 points, while Will Smith had 13. The search for their first victory continues as they compete with Urbandale on Dec. 13.

9. Sioux City East

The Black Raiders are off to a fantastic start in the 2024-25 Iowa high school basketball season. After beating Spencer by 42 points (82-40) and Bishop Heelan by 27 (70-43), they’ve dominated LeMars 82-49. Against the Bulldogs, Christopher Loggins III had 19 points and four rebounds, while Jang Ruei and Fami Yusuf had 14 points each. Sioux City East looks to maintain their undefeated record when they visit Sioux City West on Dec. 13.

10. Dallas Center-Grimes

After losing their first two games to ADM and Des Moines Christian, the Mustangs finally broke into the win column via a 63-50 result over Ames. Kyle Cason led the way with 23 points and six rebounds, while Brody Burke had 12 points and eight rebounds. Dallas Center-Grimes hopes to start a winning streak with a favorable result against Newton on Dec. 13.
