The On3 Composite Rankings have updated as the second half of January gets underway.

In Kentucky, the top 10 remains unchanged. Four Louisville programs are represented, headlined by St. Xavier, which remains No. 1 in the state.

Below are the top 25 high school basketball teams in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, as of Jan. 16.

The On3 Composite Rankings is a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected High School media and data companies. It includes Massey, Max Preps, HSRatings (formerly Cal Preps), ESPN and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced High School Team Ranking.

1. St. Xavier

St. Xavier is now 14-2 on the year after notching a 35-point win over Christian Academy earlier this week. The Tigers have proven their worth and then some already, notching ranked in-state wins over the likes of Great Crossing, Woodford County and Frederick Douglass. Next weekend will be a tall task for St. X, as it take on No. 9 Louisville Male on Jan. 24, then face Trinity on Jan. 26.

2. Great Crossing

After taking some lumps at the City of Palms Classic against a stacked national field last month, Great Crossing is now 14-4 on the year and riding a six-game winning streak, led by Kentucky four-star center signee Malachi Moreno. The Warhawks’ latest win was a 102-55 thumping of Western Hills High. A ranked bout against No. 14 Lloyd awaits this Saturday.

3. Covington Catholic

Covington Catholic’s offense continues to pick up steam, highlighted by its latest win, an 80-35 thumping of Holmes Junior Senior. Now 12-2 this season, the Colonels have already played five games against other top-25 teams in the state, defeating Woodford County, Simon Kenton and Lloyd. They’ll look to stay hot this month with games against the likes of No. 23 Cooper and Centerville (No. 24 in Ohio).

4. Frederick Douglass

Frederick Douglass has now defeated No. 5 Bryan Station twice this season, with the latest coming on Tuesday, as the Broncos won 58-52, cementing its status as the top team in Lexington thus far. Their only losses this season have come to No. 1 St. Xavier and No. 2 Great Crossing. Now 11-2, Douglass hosts Scott County this weekend.

5. Bryan Station

Bryan Station’s potent offense has now been stymied twice by Frederick Douglass. Aside from the pair of in-city losses and a defeat to Bryant (No. 6 in Arkansas) last month, the Defenders have won 14 games, scoring 80 or more points in six of them. Another ranked matchup is on the docket this Friday, as Station heads to No. 15 Henry Clay.

6. Warren Central

Warren Central is now 14-1 overall after a convincing 70-32 victory over Franklin-Simpson earlier this week. A 13-point win over ranked Louisville Male right after Christmas has been the biggest victory of the season thus far. The Dragons will look to extend its winning streak to 11 games this Friday against No. 11 Bowling Green.

7. Marshall County

Marshall County remains undefeated at 17-0. It’s already racked up three ranked in-state victories, now headlined by a 27-point beatdown of No. 13 Calloway County earlier this week. Marshall County also has wins over No. 12 Ballard and No. 17 South Oldham. A February rematch with Calloway is the next — and perhaps final — ranked regular season matchup for the Marshals.

8. Dupont Manual

Another top program out of Louisville, Dupont Manual is now 13-3 after defeating Seneca Academy by 25 on Tuesday night. The Crimson have three ranked victories under their belt thus far, two of which have come over No. 24 Pleasure Ridge Park. The rest of Dupont’s January slate doesn’t feature an opponent with a winning record.

9. Louisville Male

Now 12-4 on the year, Louisville Male has already taken on a plethora of top programs in the Bluegrass. Wins over Calloway County, Woodford County and out-of-state Oxford (Ala.) highlight the Bulldogs’ 2024-25 campaign to this point. A monumental weekend looms later this month, as Male is set to take on No. 1 St. Xavier and No. 2 Great Crossing.

10. George Rogers Clark

George Rogers Clark won its first eight games of the season, averaging 71.125 points per game. The Cardinals then lost two of their next three, but rebounded in a big way last week by snatching a 5-point win over No. 25 Cooper. GRC crushed Bourbon County 88-50 last time out and is now 11-2 overall.
