Louisiana High School Football Rankings: Top 25 teams – Oct. 28
There’s a new top dog in the Louisiana high school football rankings after this weekend’s games, with New Orleans Edna Karr assuming the state’s No. 1 spot.
There was plenty of movement elsewhere too, as teams jockey for positioning in the final few weeks before the playoffs begin.
Below are the state’s updated top 25 teams, according to the On3 Massey Ratings.
The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

1. Edna Karr
Previous: No. 2 (+1)
The Cougars are the new No. 1 team in the Boot after blowing out Warren Easton, combined with Ruston’s second straight loss. Karr now sits at 8-1 with games against No. 15 John Curtis and No. 7 Archbishop Rummel to close out the regular season.
2. Ruston
Previous: No. 1 (-1)
Following a 6-0 start, Ruston has dropped two in a row — first a 26-21 loss to Neville and now a 40-36 defeat at the hands of Alexandria. The Bearcats will have a chance to regroup this week vs. Pineville before a top-15 matchup on the road at West Monroe.
3. Acadiana
Previous: No. 3
The Rams had no problem dispatching No. 22 Southside on Friday night, winning going away 43-10. A couple of unranked opponents are on the slate to end the year, but they can’t sleep on Sam Houston (6-3) or Carencro (4-4).
4. Neville
Previous: No. 4
With two games against top-15 opponents to end the year — and coming off a huge win over then-No. 1 Ruston — Neville was in prime position for a trap game. But they easily handle a top-25 Ouachita Parish squad 41-14 to set up two huge games against West Monroe and Alexandria.
5. Alexandria
Previous: No. 7 (+2)
The Trojans were the school to finally knock Ruston off their No. 1 ranking, and they boast one of the state’s most prolific offenses heading into the postseason in a few weeks. Now they’ll look to keep the momentum going vs. Ouachita Parish before the huge top-5 showdown against Neville.
6. Catholic
Previous: No. 5 (-1)
Baton Rouge Catholic dropped a spot in this week’s ranking, but only because of the big move made by Alexandria. The Bears dominated Scotlandville Magnet 48-12 and will now face city rival Woodlawn before a top-10 tilt against Zachary on November 7.
7. Archbishop Rummel
Previous: No. 6 (-1)
Rummel continued its winning ways on Saturday, but got everything it could handle from No. 23 Holy Cross before winning 13-7. They have arguably the toughest remaining schedule in the state with games at No. 11 Jesuit and No. 1 Edna Karr the next two weeks.

8. Zachary
Previous: No. 8
The Broncos had no issues with Woodlawn, winning in a 45-21 blowout at home. Like some of the others on this list, the end to the season won’t be filled with cupcakes. An 8-1 Central squad awaits this week before the big one against Catholic.
9. St. Thomas More
Previous: No. 10 (+1)
After losing to No. 5 Alexandria a couple weeks ago, St. Thomas More has won one game by forfeit and another 61-0 over Rayne on Friday. The test will get a lot tougher this week with No. 10 Tuerlings Catholic coming in.
10. Teurlings Catholic
Previous: No. 11 (+1)
The Rebels enter the top 10 this week after starting the season 8-0. The slate hasn’t been easy thus far, but they will face by far their biggest test of the year against No. 9 STM this weekend.
