St. John Bosco (Calif.) QB Matai Fuiava reportedly transferring to Kahuku (Hi.)
The former starting quarterback for one of the nation’s top high school programs is reportedly transferring.
On Monday, 247Sports’ Greg Biggins reported that junior QB Matai Fuiava has transferred from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco and is now enrolled at Kahuku High in Hawaii. Fuiava is immediately eligible, according to the report.
St. John Bosco is currently 7-0 this season and is the No. 3 team in the nation, according to the On3 Massey Ratings. Fuiava began the season as the Braves’ starter but has missed time due to injury. In Bosco’s previous game against Santa Margarita Catholic, Fuiava split time under center with freshman Koa Malau’ulu.
In the first five games of his junior season, Fuiava completed 72 passes for 1,155 yards and 13 touchdowns to two interceptions, per MaxPreps. He also saw limited action as a sophomore, playing in five games and throwing four TDs.

Kahuku was the preseason No. 1 team in Hawaii but is currently No. 3 in the state Massey Ratings with a 6-3 record. The Red Raiders have suffered losses to national No. 1 Mater Dei (Calif.), No. 8 Bishop Gorman (Nev.) and Mililani, the No. 2 team in Hawaii. They’ve played multiple QBs this season but are averaging just 22.5 points per game.
With the Hawaii high school football season kicking off weeks before the rest of the nation, the final week of the regular season is on deck. While it’s unclear if Fuiava will be on the field for Kahuku, it could use a spark as it hosts James Campbell, the top-ranked team in the state, on Saturday night. The No. 1 Sabers are led by California QB commit Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele.
St. John Bosco is now expected to turn to Malau’ulu under center as it chases a California state title. The Braves are on the road this week against No. 6 Servite, though a trip to Santa Ana the following week to take on top-ranked Mater Dei on Oct. 25 looms large.
