1. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep lost just one game last season. Finishing with a 27-1 record, the Eaglets took down North Farmington in the Division I state championship game. Looking to defend its title, St. Mary’s enters the 2024 season as the preseason No. 1 team in the Mitten State. It will open its season on Nov. 29 on the road at L’anse Creuse North.

2. Muskegon

A 23-3 record in 2023-24 took Muskegon to the Division I quarterfinals, where the Big Reds fell to Zeeland West by just one point. Looking to get over that hump this year and armed with the top-ranked defense in the state, Muskegon will open on the road against Holt on Dec. 3.

3. Brother Rice

Like Muskegon, Brother Rice also made it to the state quarterfinals last season. But for the Warriors, it was eventual state champion St. Mary’s Prep standing in their way. Brother Rice finished with a 20-7 record and comes into this year with the state’s No. 6 offense and No. 4 defense.

4. University Of Detroit Jesuit

University of Detroit Jesuit fell to De La Salle Collegiate by three points in the opening round of last year’s postseason. This year, the Cubs — led by Toledo signee Leroy Blyden Jr. — look to capitalize on having the best offense in the state of Michigan.

5. North Farmington

An impressive 23-3 record took North Farmington all the way to the Division I state championship game last season before the Raiders fell to St. Mary’s Prep. North Farmington looks to recapture that magic this year with the No. 3 defense in the Mitten State. The Raiders tip off with Detroit King on Nov. 26.

6. Detroit Catholic Central

Expect some high-scoring affairs when Detroit Catholic Central is involved this year as the Shamrocks come in with the state’s No. 5 offense and No. 22 defense. Catholic Central went 15-9 last season with a loss in the Division I opening round to Huron.

7. De La Salle Collegiate

Seventeen wins for De La Salle in 2023 was good enough to send the Pilots to the regional final, where they fell to North Farmington. De La Salle bosts a top-15 offense and top-10 defense heading into this season as it gets set to hit the road against Northville on Nov. 24.

8. East Lansing

Home to Saint Louis signee Cameron Hutson, East Lansing will look to build upon its stellar 2023-24 campaign. The Trojans finished with a 24-3 record with a state quarterfinal loss to Huron. A tough road is ahead for East Lansing, however, with the No. 2 strength of schedule in the Mitten State for 2024-25.

9. Grand Rapids Christian

The alma mater of NBA draft picks Kobe Bufkin and Xavier Tillman finished with a 27-3 record a year ago and a Division II state championship game loss to Warren Lincoln. The Eagles will look to leap that final hurdle this season with a top-5 defense in Michigan.

10. East Kentwood

A 17-8 record for East Kentwood last season ended with an opening-round loss to Forest Hills Central. With a top-20 offense and defense, the Falcons will look to make it further in the state tournament this time around.
