Michigan high school boys basketball never stops, even as the new year starts. While the Christmas season is over, all teams in the Great Lake State are still chasing championships. However, while there are hundreds of participating squads, a handful have separated themselves from the pack.

Therefore, it’s no wonder that these teams occupy the top 25 spots in the Michigan On3 Composite Team Rankings. Here are Michigan’s best groups, based on the ratings as of Jan. 13, 2025.

The On3 Composite High School Basketball Team Ranking is a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected High School media and data companies. It includes Massey, Max Preps, Cal Preps, ESPN, and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced High School Team Ranking.

1. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep

The Eaglets are still the top team in Michigan high school boys basketball despite losing three of their last four games. However, those defeats were by five points or less against Cathedral, IMG Academy, and East Lansing. The Eaglets overcame a double-digit deficit, only to come up short against the Trojans.

Isaiah Hines led the team with 18 points in the loss. The reigning Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 champions can bounce back against Detroit Catholic Central on Jan. 17.

2. University of Detroit Jesuit High School

The Cubs extended their winning streak to 11 games after defeating St. Francis de Sales 59-46. Their win total is equally distributed among home and road wins, while they’ve won all matches against Catholic Central opponents. UD Jesuit High School can go to 12-0 by defeating Detroit Catholic Central on Jan. 14.

3. Muskegon

The Big Reds suffered their first loss this season via a 66-50 domination of Brother Rice. While they are now 8-1 for the season, James Martin was impressive in their previous game against Byron Center. The guard/forward led his team with 26 points in the victory. Muskegon will return to action against Caledonia on Jan. 14.

4. Brother Rice

The Warriors’ Jan. 11 win over Muskegon was head coach Rick Palmer’s 100th career victory. Likewise, it’s also the Big Reds’ first defeat in the 2024-25 Michigan high school boys basketball season. David Williams had 15 points in the win that improved their record to 11-1. Brother Rice can earn their ninth consecutive victory when they beat St. Francis de Sales on Jan. 17.

5. East Lansing

The Trojans escaped the stiff challenge posted by top-ranked Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep, leading to a one-point victory. Kelvin Torbert led all East Lansing scorers with 18 points as they chalk up their tenth victory in 11 games. The Trojans can extend their winning streak to six games if they beat Davison on Jan. 14.

6. Rockford

The Rams trampled over the De La Salle Collegiate Pilots 92-63. Power forward Jake Bascom paced Rockford with 26 points to clinch their tenth victory in 11 games. A tougher challenge awaits the Rams in their next match as they face Hudsonville on Jan. 14.

7. Hudsonville

The Eagles improve to 9-2 after a 71-66 victory over Grand Haven. Justin Fisher was Hudsonville’s main man, finishing with 24 points, four steals, and five rebounds. Jovaan Daniels added 18 points, while Isaiah Hamlet contributed ten points. Hudsonville’s 2024-25 Michigan high school boys basketball season continues against sixth-ranked Rockford on Jan. 14.

8. Okemos

The Wolves defeated the Robichaud Bulldogs in their Jan. 11 match 45-41. It’s a result they needed after losing to Waverly in their previous game by three points. Okemos can start another winning streak if they defeat Lakeview on Jan. 13.

9. Byron Center

The Bulldogs improved to 9-3 after their 58-41 victory against Grand Blanc. Shooting guard Keane Hinkle scored 18 points while forward Camden Karel added 12 points. Byron Center can clinch their tenth victory in the 2024-25 Michigan high school boys basketball season against Reeths-Puffer on Jan. 14.

10. Lincoln

Despite losing their Jan. 11 match against Northview, Markus Blackwell had an excellent game with 29 points. Geon Hutchins added 19 for the Abes, who will be looking to bounce back against Dakota on Jan. 15.
