The preseason Top 25 rankings for Michigan high school football were released last month. Here are the updated Michigan On3 Massey Ratings Top-25 as of Monday, Sept. 2, 2024 after Week 1 of action:
1. Belleville
Previous Ranking: 2
Belleville has won two of the last three Division I state championships and is clearly once again a contender. The Tigers are led by the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 class — quarterback and LSU commit Bryce Underwood. The senior had a huge game this past week to lead Belleville to a 35-28 win over Clarkston, which was ranked No. 11 in the Massey Preseason Michigan High School Football rankings.
2. De La Salle Collegiate
Previous Ranking: 4
The Pilots got off to a strong start to the season, beating Davison 21-3 to start the year 1-0. Davison was ranked No. 9 in the Massey Preseason Michigan High School Football rankings, but De La Salle handled the Cardinals with relative ease. The Pilots trailed 3-0 at the half, before pulling away for the comfortable victory behind a dominant defensive performance. De La Salle won Division 2 titles in both 2021 and 2022 and has a chance to win another championship this season.
3. Zeeland West
Previous Ranking: 12
The Dux moved way up the rankings after their strong Week 1 performance, jumping up nine spots to No. 3. Zeeland West beat Muskegon 28-13 after the Big Reds were ranked No. 3 entering the year. Muskegon won the state title in 2023, but it is Zeeland West that has bragging rights after Friday’s victory. The Dux could be a team to watch out for all year.
4. Rockford
Previous Ranking: 1
The No. 1 team in the Massey Preseason Michigan High School Football rankings dropped to No. 4 following a closer-than-expected matchup with Cass Technical. The Rams built a 30-13 lead but had to hold on late to secure the win. Rockford benefited from a pair of pick-sixes in the victory, which came against a Cass Technical team that was not in the preseason Top-25 of the Michigan high school football rankings.
5. West Bloomfield
Previous Ranking: 5
The Lakers opened the season with an impressive and convincing win, pounding Chippewa Valley 42-0. Chippewa Valley was ranked 15 in the preseason, but West Bloomfield had no issue with the Big Reds. The 42-0 win was the largest margin of victory ever for West Bloomfield in a season opener. The Lakers look like serious state title contenders, if this past weekend’s game is any indication.
6. Forest Hills Central
Previous Ranking: 8
The Rangers earned a hard-fought 21-10 victory over Reeths-Puffer to open the season 1-0. Forest Hills Central is the defending state champion in Division 3 and appears ready to make some noise again this season. The Rangers defense played very well in the game, including forcing a pair of turnovers.

7. Catholic Central
Previous Ranking: 6
Catholic Central dropped a spot in the Michigan High School Football rankings after narrowly defeating Lake Central in its season opener. The Cougars weren’t expected to have much trouble against Lake Central but instead they had to hold on for a 17-10 win. Up next Catholic Central faces a Notre Dame Prep team that opened the season with a dominant win.
8. Adams
Previous Ranking: 18
The Highlanders made a huge jump in the Michigan High School Football rankings after beating another preseason top-25 team in Romeo. Adams earned a nail-biting 22-21 victory in overtime to improve to 1-0 on the year. Adams jumped out to a 14-0 lead before Romeo battled back to force overtime in the suspenseful matchup.
9. Lake Orion
Previous Ranking: 13
Lake Orion moved up four spots in the Michigan High School football rankings after topping Northville 21-13 in its season opener. Lake Orion jumped out to a 14-0 lead on its way to the victory. The Dragons will now hit the road for Week 2 and travel to take on Stoney Creek.
10. Caledonia
Previous Ranking: 7
The Fighting Scots dropped a few spots, although they have yet to play a game this season. Caledonia will open the 2024 season on Friday, Sept. 6 against a talented Reeths-Puffer team that gave Forest Hills a tough game this past week. It will be interesting to see how Caledonia plays after getting an extra week of preparation.
