Week 2 of the Michigan high school football season is in the books following another entertaining slate of games. Several of the top teams in the state moved to 2-0 on the year, while a few dropped their first game of the season.

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college and high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

The updated Michigan high school football Massey Ratings Top-25 is out. Here is where things stand as of Sept. 9, 2024:

1. Belleville

Previous Ranking: 1
Belleville stayed atop the Michigan High School Football rankings after The Tigers improved to 2-0 on the year by pounding Stevenson 44-6. LSU commit Bryce Underwood, who is the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 class, played well in the victory. Belleville also did some nice things defensively, holding Stevenson to only 6 points. It was an impressive victory for the Tigers after they had a tough matchup with Clarkston to open the season.

2. Rockford

Previous Ranking: 4
Rockford was ranked No. 1 in the preseason and is now moving back up the rankings after dropping to No. 4. The Rams beat a top 25 team in Muskegon on Friday by a score of 28-21. Rockford was in control and led 28-7 at one point, before Muskegon battled back. Despite having to hold on late, it was still a solid victory for the Rams. Quarterback Brayden Daniels led the way for Rockford, reportedly going 18 of 28 for 210 yards and three touchdowns.

3. De La Salle Collegiate

Previous Ranking: 3
De La Salle Collegiate dropped one spot, despite remaining perfect on the year. The Pilots pounded a top-25 Martin Luther King team 35-13. De La Salle Collegiate has had a tough schedule to open the season, facing two top 25 teams in Davison and Martin Luther King. The Pilots handled both and look like serious state title contenders.

4. Detroit Catholic Central

Previous Ranking: 14
Detroit Catholic Central made a big jump in the Michigan High School football rankings, moving up 10 spots. The Shamrocks beat Catholic Central, which was previously ranked No. 7, by a score of 21-7 this past weekend. Detroit Catholic has opened the season with back-to-back impressive wins by double digits. Catholic Central had won a school-record 33 straight games before falling to Detroit Catholic.

5. Zeeland West

Previous Ranking: 2
The Dux improved to 2-0 on the year with a 42-22 win over West Ottawa. Zeeland West has been impressive early on this season as both wins were on the road. Keaton Hendricks reportedly led the way for Zeeland West with eight carries for 168 yards and three touchdowns. The Dux also played well defensively, particularly up front.

6. Lake Orion

Previous Ranking: 9
The Dragons opened the season outside of the top 10 but are up to No. 6 after back-to-back impressive wins. Lake Orion crushed Stoney Creek 42-13 on Friday to improve to 2-0 on the year. Both wins for Lake Orion came on the road. The Dragons will have their home opener this Friday against Troy.

7. Caledonia

Previous Ranking: 10
Caledonia waited an extra week to get started, but once the Fighting Scots did they were impressive. Caledonia beat Reeths-Puffer 35-7 in its season opener, using a strong defensive effort to secure the comfortable win. Reeths-Puffer is far from a pushover as it gave Forest Hills Central a tough game to open the year. Up next, Caledonia will host East Kentwood.

8. Clarkston

Previous Ranking: 19
The Wolves bounced back from a loss to Belleville in Week 1 to pound Southfield 48-0. Despite being 1-1, Clarkston is still ranked in the top 10 after playing the top team in the state to the wire and handling a Southfield team that was ranked in the top 20 last week. Clarkston has a chance to continue to impress on Friday when it hosts a solid Oxford team.

9. Forest Hills Central

Previous Ranking: 6
The Rangers dropped a few spots following a 7-0 victory over Portage Central. The good news is Forest Hills is still undefeated. However, the offense is clearly still a work in progress. If the defense can continue to play the way it did against Portage Central, the Rangers should continue to win games, even if they are closer than they would like.

10. West Catholic

Previous Ranking: 12
The Falcons bounced back from a Week 1 loss to an out-of-state Elder team to pound Coopersville 63-28. It was an impressive performance against West Catholic, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Up next the Falcons will host a top-20 South Christian team as they look to continue to move up the rankings.
