New Louisville 5-star PG commit Mikel Brown Jr. leads DME Academy (Fla.) to win over Huntington Prep (W.V.)
Just days after committing to the Louisville Cardinals, DME Academy (Fla.) five-star point guard Mikel Brown Jr. made his way to the Bluegrass State to help his team take part in Grind Session Louisville this weekend.
Brown gave the Cardinals faithful plenty of reason for excitement on Saturday, as he propelled the Lakers to a 94-87 victory over Huntington Expression Prep (W.V.). The 6-foot-3, 165-pounder did it all for the Lakers, racking up 23 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and a steal.
The big-time performance is the latest in what’s been an eye-popping season for the senior thus far. Last month at the City of Palms Classic, he finished games with 28 and 25 points. On Friday, Brown compiled 25 points, three assists and a rebound in a 73-63 victory over Orlando West Oaks Academy (Fla.).
With the win, DME is now 14-5 on the season. Following the latest update to the On3 Composite Ranking, the Lakers are now the No. 25 team in the Sunshine State.

Louisville lands big commitment from Brown
Brown announced his pledge to Pat Kelsey and Louisville on Jan. 1., choosing the Cards over Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas, Indiana, UCF and others. He’s the lone commit in the ACC program’s 2025 class.
“That coaching staff was great last year. I think they were one of the best, if not the best, mid major last year in college basketball,” Brown previously said of Kelsey’s staff to On3. “So they’re definitely an underdog and I think they’re going to have a really good team this year, considering them going into the transfer portal. I think their roster is really great. The coaching staff has been great. They’ve been preaching to me that the ball is going to be in my hands. I would be making the plays and would have a big impact coming into the season next year.”
Brown is the No. 9 overall prospect and top-ranked point guard in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 2 player in Florida.
